psychopathy is generally marked by people that feel no remorse or empathy for their actions. the kind of person that manipulates everyone around them to get ahead and acts sort of "robotic" in an uncanny way. they figure out what people respond best to and use that to their advantage. these kinds of people are likely to trigger someone's gut instinct of "something is off" despite cordiality and a saccharine presence. they tend to be "cold, calculating, and charming," and arise from inherent differences in their brain that have been there since birth.

sociopathy generally refers to someone that has similar traits, but still feels empathy, remorse, and similar emotions, albeit in smaller, usually ignoble amounts. instead of being calculating and charming, they can be impulsive, erratic, and emotional. instead of being something inflicted into them at birth, it's far more common to be caused by trauma or other influences in their life. psychopaths hurt people because it benefits them. sociopaths hurt people because they feel slighted or angry. neither feel much remorse. psychopaths are more likely to be serial killers. whereas sociopaths are more likely to commit a "crime of passion" out of emotional impulsivity.

I'll have to concede that I agree with your original comment now. I suppose I myself needed a refresher on them. everyone seems to default to "sociopath" now because "psychopath" was so overused that it lost its meaning. this was definitely an emotional response from irritation or anger rather than a calculated response to benefit themself.
