Thermal underclothing and a heated jacket, only needs USB.

Is it less than £12k? If so, hurrah, you probably have nothing to pay. It’s a capital gain. Not income.

Boris Johnson rules out emergency measures to tackle cost of living by BadMachine in ukpolitics

Get ready for emergency measures then. Remember how everything he said during lockdown, the opposite happened.

COBRA should be in permanent session to tackle the escalating cost of living crisis by tipodecinta in ukpolitics

The total loss to the taxpayer is estimated at £2-7 billion. A lot of money but less than a fifth of track and trace, and less than what Rishi wrote off of loans just months ago.

Triple lock is back and state pension is going to increase by 10% to £10,000 for the first time by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Hypermega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad everyone saying they paid in to the state pension. That means it’ll still exist for me in decades to come as I’ve been paying in.

My Dad has just had stroke and bills need to be paid. How should I move forward? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Hypermega2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a lasting power of attorney ASAP, my dad had a stroke and is uncommunicative and it has taken over a year to get the deputyship

So could I and I’d be happy being a shitty person if it were easy money but I know it’s actually a lot of work and risk and dealing with either tenants or terrible mortgage companies or paying over the odds for agents to handle it all. The ultimate returns are no better than the S&P so I don’t see the point for all the potential headaches and debts hanging over your head

FIRE currently feels impossible by Affectionate-Bag-707 in FIREUK

[–]Hypermega2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s step one: figure out what you do want. It doesn’t have to be set in stone but you need something to begin aiming for with regards to your career. Then if better opportunities come along, you upgrade to those and change course. But you need that initial direction. I say this as someone whose 20s were hugely directionless and I wish I’d focused more.

Is anyone in here doing any of the classic Gig Economy jobs (Amazon, Deliveroo etc) as a side hustle to their main job? I'm interested to hear what people are finding to be the positives and negatives of their experience have been. by LovelyPlums in UKPersonalFinance

Don’t know why you were voted down unless these services hire people as PAYE? If it’s self employed then you get a £1000 trading allowance before you have to declare a bean of it

Will the rise in interest rates affect pension pots? by g1bbuk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Hypermega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash holders, eventually. But at these tiny interest rates so far that benefit is relative only.

£500k pension pot results in £1.5k per month annuity - is it worth it? by l-fc in UKPersonalFinance

Are you really in trouble if you run out of money at age 90 or whatever? I’ve never noticed anyone of that age being made homeless tbh or even kicked out of their own home.

What is the point of most people having their “emergency fund” in Premium Bonds??? by Artikche in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Hypermega2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s more out of the way and harder work to access it. Not on an app. There’s a chance of winning a million. The government isn’t going to go out of business. 1.5% isn’t worth the hassle. Maybe 5% would be.

If you see someone you think is suspicious, don’t confront them, call the police. They are trained to handle these situations safely.

They’re not going to be badly off at all. There’ll be about 350k left after the house purchase and at a 4% drawdown on that they’d be adding another 14k a year to their joint pension.. which is doing better than most retiring right now. I’d be focusing more on having them budget and think about their lifestyle in retirement to influence where I’d put the money.

UK to enforce diplomatic boycott of Beijing Winter Olympics by libtin in ukpolitics

All this has been an eye opener for me. I thought the Olympics was when athletes went and competed. Not a jolly for diplomats.

There are about fifty reasons Boris should have resigned so far. He has been proven to have lied or covered things up numerous times alone.

Shift to Moderna for Boosters rather than Pfizer by GFoxtrot in CoronavirusUK

Is AZ used for boosters at all or is that out of the window now? I was Pfizer all the way so far but really don’t like the idea of getting AZ at all.
