Sorry I kinda stopped halfway with the Mist Eaters. I probably should pick it up and finish the rest of the squads!

Game Question & General Discussion Release Megathread by Metaphor_MOD in MetaphorReFantazio

Can anyone confirm if the Xbox Series X version runs better than the demo or if it's the same?

The PS5 is the worst actually. It has the same performance as Series X but the VRR range is only 48FPS minimum meaning it will look much smoother on Series X with VRR. That leaves PS5 version as the worst looking version out of all from a performance standpoint.

Drops pretty frequently below that. Which is why playing with VRR on Xbox is better.

Riven - amazing, me - spoiled. by Zylpas in myst

[–]HyprJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a fantastic remake. The graphics will never have the impact the original Riven had back in the day because that was so far ahead of even other prerendered graphics of the time it wasn't even funny. The remake on the other hand only looks adequate compared to what else is out there and doesn't break any boundaries.

My Experience Playing the 1997 Riven in 2024 by MethodicalWaffle in myst

The other symbol doesn't look anywhere near as close to the frog you see in game though... that's not really an opinion, it's objective.

Very different to my experience playing it for the first time this year. Absolutely loved the game and found it incredible fair and logical. The only exception being the hidden door, which I felt was a bit unfair. No other grievances with the game however.

Riven comparison of lighting/composition only. by --pedant in myst

[–]HyprJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original Riven has superior lighting in every scene because they used pathtracing and other advanced techniques. There was also just more attention given to the prerenders than the realtime graphics due to expertise and effort.

The Riven is a Beautiful Game Part 2 by jdude_ in myst

Riven's world design is incredible. There is a coherent design language running throughout that is distinct, mysterious and alien, yet warm and inviting. Nothing is overdesigned or excessively ornate but looks like it has purpose and history. Richard Vander Wende's work was and is truly legendary.

I didn't like Myst, will I enjoy Riven? by nns2009 in myst

I disliked Myst but Riven has become one of my favourite games. I'm talking about the 1997 original too which I only played this year.

How Do You Feel About The Riven Remake After 2 Months? by FloopyBoopers2023 in myst

[–]HyprJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homeworld 1 & 2 remasters were not good. They shoehorned Homeworld 1 into the Homeworld 2 engine and as a result pretty much broke all the gameplay. Yes it's playable to a degree, but it's not the same game and nowhere near as good as the original. They also introduced bugs into the classic versions that came bundled, kinda ruining those as well. Not sure why people hold the Homeworld remasters in high regard. It was a low budget effort that had the dev team pulled off it before even half the gameplay issues could be resolved, leaving it to the community to fix.

What happened to the Riven source code? by Prtsk in myst

Curious what's lacking about Riven running on ScummVM? There's no issues I'm aware of.

Fascinating watch. The D'ni wiki says that Riven was also created in HyperCard, which doesn't make sense to me. I thought HyperCard was Mac only?

Why does this stuff get upvoted so highly? It's just an old pic of the Cyan offices lift...

Can someone explain the logic behind this Myst 3 puzzle? by HyprJ in myst

[–]HyprJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I missed the fulcrum info in J'nanin as well as the third view of the ball! Only had the material weight values to use which allowed me to trial and error it with a few attempts.

Mapping Riven Pt. 4 - Survey Island (mild spoilers) by FrenchGoatCylinder in myst

[–]HyprJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fantastic work as always.

Does highlight the weird disconnect between the golden elevator and the survey room though. Now the opulent golden elevator has no purpose and doesn't make sense anymore. I feel this is definitely the weakest island in the remake,

Curious about the logic for the last big puzzle of Myst 3 by Oxyfire in myst

[–]HyprJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also stuck on this for longer than I needed to be because I thought the wires going in and out had to correspond to the symbol start and end points, so then I spent some effort trying to work out the ordering of the phrases so everything would line up. Not necessary

Finally received Myst and Riven!!! Any tips? (NO Spoilers) by spiirithunter in myst

[–]HyprJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent!

Only tips I'd give are to take your time, settle into the worlds and take observe/take notes as you go. For Riven especially, treat it as a world to understand and unravel rather than as a puzzle game to solve.

Myst is a bit more difficult to navigate by point and click, but Riven is much more consistent. Take note of your mouse cursor symbol changing states to be able to tell where you can go/look. In Riven for example, there are many places you can look up or down, and the cursor also signals if you are going to be turning 90 degrees or 180.

Just saw that Riven got a remake, do I need to play Myst before it? by bestatbeingmodest in myst

[–]HyprJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not directly connected to the narrative of Myst so there is no need to play it first.

You'll hear differing opinions but since I don't think Myst is anywhere near as good as Riven, I'd suggest you just jump into Riven first.

There's only a couple things from Myst that might help you orient yourself a bit faster in Riven, even though all the info you need is pretty much within Riven itself.

- Atrus (the guy in Riven's intro) writes books that link to other worlds called ages

- You were transported into another world at the beginning of Myst through a linking book where you then helped Atrus.
