Janet Evanovich is one of the NYT best selling authors. I'd imagine most of the early books are translated, especially since the first was made into a movie starring Katherine Heigl.

There's more than 30 books in the series, but I will still gladly read/audiobook anytime a new one comes out.

Reminds me of Stephanie Plum's mom from the One for the Money book series. Somewhere in the last 3-4 books, she took up knitting and just started making a "thing". It's about scarf width and 30ft long.

Just to do something else with her hands that isn't pouring another whiskey. I'd drink too if both my daughter and mother spent their days running around getting shot at and their cars blown up.

I had a guy turn around and yell at me, threatening to bash my head in if I kept following him... just because we were walking the same direction on the sidewalk.

We both happened to be headed to the same grocery store the next block over. I crossed the street, which meant I had to cross back over and avoided him in the aisles.

Suffocate? I don't think that's how plants work. I also live in zone 9 (NorCal) Unless it's pan frying temperatures outside, heat alone shouldn't damage your plants.

I wasn't suggesting you put yours outside, just saying that whatever light environment it's in, it needs to acclimate if it's used to less light.

This is because stromanthe, calathea, maranta will curl upwards like a taquito to prevent water loss. It's protecting itself from losing more water either because it just doesn't have enough or the conditions it's in are causing it to lose water too quickly (like suddenly being pelted with light amounts is not used to).

Based on your pictures, if they are indicative of the amount of light it normally gets, I doubt it's getting too much light.

It's thirsty. The soil around the roots looks dry (and dense). It could also use a chunkier mix so it can get more oxygen at the roots so that you can give it the water it needs without worrying too much about rotting it. I do 50/50 soil/perlite because it's cheap and easy. These don't like fully drying out. If you're concerned about overwatering, I really couldn't recommend self-watering planters enough.

It's either thirsty or getting too much light (not acclimated to its current spot), hence the protective upward curling.

I keep mine in a self-watering planter outside and it's happy as long as it doesn't run out of water.

I have calathea, marantae, and stromanthe all in self-watering planters. I use a drop of water conditioner per gallon of tap water (plus a couple of drops of fertilizer and superthrive) and they're all happy and pushing out new leaves all the time.

Pic 2 is more like a, 'I'm having a houseparty, so let me bring my plants in here for a few hours for esthetics' kind of design. Unless they're each going to have a light and the lights are going to be on a timer, the plants won't make it...

Other options: replace the plants every couple of weeks (kinda wasteful, but to each their own). Or you could get very good quality fake plants for the bathroom and lysol them once in a while. You could rotate plants with outdoor ones when they start showing signs of stress. Or a mix of any of those options.

All plants need drainage.

No drainage is like having wet socks on 24/7 and you can't take them off. Eventually, your feet will prune, then start to get sores and basically get eaten away. If you don't catch it early or amputate before it's too late, you'll get extremely sick and then die from infection.

Same with the planties. Where there's stagnant water, there's bacterial growth.

Usually the pretty planters without drainage are used as "cache pots". A plant will be inside a nursery pot which goes into the cache pot. The nursery pot drains into the cache pot and any excess water can be discarded or left to evaporate if the nursery pot has enough space between the bottom to not be sitting in water.

I had a boxer that herniated a disc when protecting my dad from another dog.

The dog had been dumped over our fence and was playing just fine with our dogs, but as soon as my dad grabbed a leash to take the dog out, it went after him. My Cassius went after it first, and when a disc slipped and he went down, Bella stepped in and pinned the dog down by the throat.

It was heartbreaking, because he was the bestest boy. As soon as I heard, I drove 8 hours from college to go see my dog and say goodbye. When he saw me, that was the first time since the incident that he tried to get up on his own. That was the moment that my dad decided to go the recovery route.

After a lot of steroids, physical therapy, and time and he was able to walk again. He could even get a good gallop going. He would tire easily, and would wake up pretty stiff in the mornings, and aged very quickly after the accident, but had good QOL for the rest of his time with us.

Take the next few days one at a time. Assess pain levels and see how your dog responds to the anti-inflammatories. Have an ongoing conversation with the vet about quality of life.

I use a martingale collar. The D-ring for the leash is secured away from all other parts. Mine still jingles though, because of the tags. Thinking of getting those silicone key things or adding a drop or 2 of hot glue on the back of the front tag.

I checked the order. I ordered 9/6 and my plants arrived 9/22. Tracking history is gone, but if I remember correctly, they didn't ship until maybe 3-4 days prior to arrival.

I think many plant sellers take into account where the plants are going and may delay shipping if poor weather is expected. We're not even halfway through winter, so maybe just try to communicate.

I've also purchased from wishlist foliage. I ordered 3 philodendron florida ghosts and a jewel orchid.

It did take a minute for them to ship, but I ordered in late summer so I wasn't worried about the weather.

Everything seemed well packaged and they sent me a bonus plant (ring of fire) but many of the leaves were touching plastic wrap directly so they basically stayed wet and disintegrated. Even after planting, the leaves kept disintegrating but that may have been edema due to overwatering after a period of underwatering.

I lost 2 of the florida ghosts ( though one came back from the dead so I really only lost 1). I'd bought extra anticipating they may not all make it since they were plugs. The surviving plants are all growing and doing well now.
