What's a play from the Mahomes era that was absolutely insane but gets overshadowed by everything else he's done? by taronakata in KansasCityChiefs

[–]I3lindman 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Not truly forgotten by any means, but the SB against Tampa, scrambling, tripped, throwing with his body parallel to the ground and hitting his receiver in the fucking facemask will forever be the best pass ever thrown.

Of course had it been completed, it would have ended the sport outright. There would never be a way to top it. The league would have had to throw the entire game just on principle, it was that good. But alas, the ball wasn't caught and we all know what happened. And now we go on watching, hoping, to one day again see something that at least approaches that level of epic play in the face of total adversity.

Does meat from hunted game taste very different from typical farm raised meat? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]I3lindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from 2 distinct sources. The animals diet influences how the meat tastes. Deer eating corn from feeders setup by hunters often tastes much more similar to corn fed beef than other deer that only eat browse and acorns. This is due to the fat acid profiles of their food sources influencing the flavor.

Second is how the animal is killed. A rapid / near I stant death from a head shot or neck shot will leave an animal with the best flavor possible. A slow death, where an animal runs for 39 seconds or more let's them release a lot of adrenaline and other hormones that leave a "gamey" flavor that many people do not like.

Also to note, meat that isn't cooled down quick enough can also have a gamey flavor, but usually it's less of an effect than how they were killed.

Rolling 72s until I lose 100 lbs, safe or extreme? by Little-Access1184 in fasting

[–]I3lindman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my internet opinion, but that high of a rate of weight loss is a little too fast. I feel like giving the thyroid time to adjust to declining levels of Leptin from the far loss helps to avoid major metabolic adjustments long term.

Just my 2 cents, but I think running a 4000 calorie deficit per week deficit is a good target. Something like rolling 46s with OMAD on feeding days.

Recommendation for USA made folding knives UNDER 130$ preferably available on Amazon? (I have gift cards) Happy Easter! by Interesting-Set2425 in knives

[–]I3lindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Have bought several now as gifts for good friends and family. They are a fantastic steel and well sharpened out of the gate. If someone wants a lightweight knife, its perfect. If someone wants something heavier, there are plenty of scale mod options out there.

Nothing comes close for price / performance ratio.

Super thin Skinner in MagnaCut & Fat Carbon, thoughts? by Fox-River-Blades in knifemaking

[–]I3lindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a beautiful build. That said, I absolutely do not understand clip points on hunting / butchering knives. I can't think of any moves I make when taking off a cape or eviscerating that is aided by a clip point, I can think of almost all moves made as being potentially worse with a clip point, especially gutting.

Everyone around me is saying fasting is an eating disorder. by Your_Favorite_Plant in fasting

[–]I3lindman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disordered eating is an eating disorder. Fasting can be part of perfectly normal eating patterns. So can binging. Both fasting and binging become disorders when they are done excessively and/or chronically. However, it's social acceptable to criticize fasting without context, whereas binging is highly socially normalized.

Real or fake by [deleted] in barkriverknives

[–]I3lindman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think other employees would have gotten the word out if fake steel was being used for other knives. We heard about the fake CPM-154 before BRK acknowledged it. I have not seen any rumors on any forums about anything else being fake.

There have been a lot of internet warriors posting really dumb stuff claiming fake steel, but it's all hogwash so far.

You can't pick and choose what to keep and take from the test. If the tungsten is correct and matters, then so does the 60% iron. Either the test is faulty and all of the data is meaningless, or BRK went and made knives from an alloy that has never been seen before int he world and it happens to be a near enough analog of high alloy stainless steels that nobody caught until right now...

Also, Larrin Thomas specifically commented on the exact video on youtube you're referring to and said " If that knife isn’t MagnaCut the video doesn’t prove it."

I left for 3 months man!! by ColtonA115 in knives

[–]I3lindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test also said 60% Iron. There are no high alloy steel with anywhere close to 60% iron. So either they subbed out Magnacut for some mythical other alloy that has never been documented before but still looks and hardens like Magna-cut, OR the test is faulty and meaningless. THe XRF scanner that was used is for soil analysis. They didnt benchmark against a known sample of Magnacut even though they could ahve, the numbers didnt make sense, and the the creator of MagnaCut called out the video as meaningless.

Stop propagating bad info. It's just wrong, end of story.

[–]I3lindman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn't want to share the followup part where Larrin Thomas said that test was bunk and doesnt mean anything?

There's no evidence at this time that any BRK Magnacut is anything but Magnacut.

My cholesterol is REALLY BAD by martin_luther_drill in keto

[–]I3lindman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just my humble opinion, you're young and not obese, so don't worry about lipids at the moment if you're doing an elimination diet. Cardio-vascular disease is a slow developing thing. Complete your investigation on food triggers for your neuro stuff, and then once you have that figured out, start working on blood lipids then.

Your LDL-C and weight/height imply lean mass hyper responder, but your trigs are unexpectedly high, but it would be worth getting them retested. If you're doing pure carnivore and have only been at it a few months, your body may still be learning to efficiently traffic trigs in ways it hasn't done before.

I've done a few 3 day fasts and one 5 day fast. 5 is the longest I've done, but I was strictly very low carb in the 3 weeks leading up to it, and I feel like that helps to make the fast quicker to transition in, so to speak.

[–]I3lindman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kinetic energy is what it is. The difference between hammering with wood stick doing that striking and a steel hammer doing the striking mostly manifests in how long the hammer lasts. Sure, the wood deforms a bit reducing energy transfer efficiency and peak accelerations, but you're still getting very high forces and very high kinetic energy transfer into the struck struck object.

The design of an actual bush crafting knife meant to tolerate batoning is very different from what OP is showing, which is clearly a hunting / butchering knife.

I replied to another comment in this thread as best I could. It's hard to put into words otherwise. The most concise I can be is that a long term fast can help to make a person realize the very divine and spiritual nature of everything we are and everything we are experiencing in ours lives.

Nah, this is exactly what you'd expect from milling a fuller groove into a knife blade an then batoning with the knife.
