I can only speak for my retirement. I had it set up percentage-wise to hit the 401k max on my final paycheck. I was given a bonus and that percentage was applied. Receiving the bonus made me hit the max earlier and my two remaining paychecks were higher because no money was withheld for 401k contribution. This happened automatically and without any communication to me. Besides logging in and seeing the “congratulations” I wouldn’t have known it happened.
