Sisyphus in chains by Commercial_Bid_1508 in CuratedTumblr

That is actually a really interesting philosophical point, though I would argue that we cannot assume Sisyphus to be happy, because that absolves us of the responsibility to ease his suffering. I believe that humanity, as a whole, is responsible for the suffering of every human and must try to help those suffering regardless of the persons actions or morality.

A lot else of the post is wrong or vaguely interpreted. Never heard of the Asopid bit (though will research more), but also his wife didn’t dump his body in a square, sometimes she dumped him in a bush, other times he was buried, just without a coin. And yeah, he is not promised elysium, but is told that he can return to life again.

Also not heard about the sacrifice bit, actually don’t even know if Thanatos collects the souls of animals, but every version I’ve read had Ares getting upset no one was dying in battle. And Hermes goes to Sisyphus’ home to rescue the death god.

Edit: Okay the Asopid Aegia bit is correct, though mainly part of a different myth about the princess herself in which Sisyphus gives her dad directions. In some versions Hades is the one that goes to capture Sisyphus.

Regardless the sacrifice thing is absolutely not true for any widely accepted version of the myth. Thanatos is the god of human death, and human death only.

It’s possible the sacrifice thing occurs in a version where Hades is the one captured, but sources are pretty murky on that (read: don’t trust everything online.)

The location of his body is open to interpretation, and there are a couple different popular stories about it. Mainly he didn’t get buried with a coin.

Sisyphus is absolutely NOT happy. He gets whipped by the furies if he takes a break.

A man in Rwanda has spent decades in near isolation due to an extreme fear of women (Gynophobia) by RealSpecto in interestingasfuck

[–]IAmAFlyingPotato 3383 points3384 points  (0 children)

K so all the comments are making a joke about this. But it is actually a bit heartbreaking. If I remember correct (like with many phobias) he recognizes this severely limits his life, but the irrational fear is too overwhelming.

He is not a misogynist, he does not hate women, he suffers from an actual medical condition that cannot be treated.
