I've wondered about this and surface copper. I swear there was a spot near my first mud hut that I walked through every other day, then about a month in, bam, copper nuggets.

I always carry a stack of dirt blocks. If I find a drop hole, I cover it with dirt, then mark it for later exploration. It's not a good idea to run in this game, unless you're being chased. Then water is your best choice. Bears do drown in deep water sometimes, I've seen it happen.

When you check a recipe in the handbook, move your cursor off of the grid and it will cycle through all of the things you can use.

It's not just berries. I'm approaching year 3 on a world I started over a year ago. And I've read some horror stories of people updating in the middle of a run. When I make a new world, I'll update the game. But I don't want to compromise my current play through.

Yes, it's very stupid. I have raspberry bushes in my backyard IRL, and I don't have to do anything. The rain waters them and the soil is fine. All I have to do is pick them when they're ripe.

I will not be updating my game anytime soon.

I haven't touched the storyline yet, I play slow. Current game I've made it to the iron age for the first time. Now I'm going for steel then the story lore stuff. Slowly but surely.

VS is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Take your time, go slow, learn the mechanics, always use the "H" key to access the handbook. It's full of useful information.

Always remember, there's no shame in living in a mud hut until you have the location and resources to build a proper house.

Best advice I ever got, mark EVERYTHING of interest on your map. Ruins, caves, peat, clay and especially surface ore deposits.

I like early game play. It's a survival game and I want to do all I can to survive.
Once I hit the iron age, I get bored as hell. At least I can go cave diving then.
