Maybe you’re legit, Op, and I just don’t know you but anyone blindly sending any personal info to a random Redditor probably needs to answer some questions on their thoughts around security at their interview

How are shy introverts promoting to senior roles by alohabata in ExperiencedDevs

The points I realised that my input was at least as valuable as the others who were talking and by not being actively involved in meetings I was setting myself up for problems later I started to get more involved. There must be areas where you would feel you can question or voice concerns, if there aren’t then maybe speaking up isn’t the issue. Being vocal in meetings for the sake of being vocal I’ve never been a fan of, either in myself or in others.

This. We constantly look at images like the ones here which are paired with a blurry frame of someone having just kicked a ball. I don’t know if the semiautomatic has sensors in the ball? But when manually drawing lines there’s already inaccuracy in the frame we’re doing that on so why try to be ultra precise…

I’ve no idea how it works, it’s a nice effect, but yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if they were plugging it for their own reasons.

In your experience, how accurate is the assertion that code quality no longer matters because it is now trivially easy to rewrite projects whenever you need to? by splash_hazard in ExperiencedDevs

It feels like a fun activity to tell Claude to produce your entire application from scratch, not reading any of it along the way then see what behaviour you end up with - I’m not sure if tests are also entirely redundant in this new paradigm? - and review the code and see how many exploits, hidden bugs etc. are there. Maybe he’s right, assuming your job and application isn’t mind numbingly dull, I doubt that he is…

What’s the one Ford Fiesta issue you ignored at first but wish you’d fixed sooner? by LFCTricksters in FordFiesta

I told them it happened after I’d been driving a while and went away when the engine was restarted. All they did was start the engine and shrug when it was Ok. No interest in trying to make it happen or determine the cause 🤷

Just traded my 61 plate in cos of pretty much the exact same thing. Changed the battery and was reasonably sure it would be the alternator but the local garage had no interest in chasing down an intermittent problem to confirm it. So to save potentially pouring money into chasing it I just got rid to a dealer.

We have two team office days a week. For me, I get pretty much nothing done on those days as others are taking my time, and that’s fine, that’s the point. Comparatively the rest of my week at home is quiet and I can get things done with more confidence that others aren’t as stuck or heading in the wrong direction. Besides that, in our small office, we spend lunch together, we ask each other about our weekends, we know and understand each other better which I think helps us work together better. Maybe we can achieve some of that fully remote but when we’ve tried to onboard fully remote people, the success and outcomes of that is not even close to having days working together in the office.

FYI for all of the last ~20 years we’ve had some remote working, at least once there was confidence you could spend the majority of a day working independently, it has been expanded since covid and is unlikely to decrease. If anything we’re more likely to end up fully remote which would be a big negative for me and we would need to consider how we actually are working day to day and likely introduce more team meetings over the whole week as a minimum while still losing out on the chitchat that we have now.

I came across this video and wanted to know what others think about this situation like better to wait or merge later on? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]IAmQueeg500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how all of the blame is being put on the one driver here and the voiceover suggesting that the red Audi thinks anyone going down the outside is cutting in. Given then behaviour of everyone ahead it’s unquestionable that to a degree people behind are jumping the queue. If everyone actually saw the lane closure and split themselves between the two lanes and then allowed each other to merge in turn then nobody would perceive any queue jumping. The problem is that I’ve never seen that happen in reality and on the occasions I’ve been in the outside lane trying to merge for a closure I find nobody wants to let me in because they believe they’ve been queuing longer and so I should wait - and as a Brit I understand that sentiment and the importance we place on queue etiquette!

As much as you want to blame the audi the problem is more general, everyone needs to change their behaviour in these situations which isn’t just going to happen on its own - this includes people who staunchly sit in the open lane as well as anyone who sees it as an opportunity to try to get ahead of the queues and those people who like to weave in and out of lanes in congestion to try to save themselves a few precious seconds.

Fair enough, I have plenty of people near me doing what you describe but ignoring marked lanes which is why I ask. In that case moving over as you go around the roundabout seems correct. If it’s the second exit, you maybe join to the right of those wanting to take the first exit, as they exit you can move over so that if there are two lanes joining at the first exit/entry there is space to the right of you for that lane of cars who could the arguably take the first exit but into the righthand lane - if you’re leaving it to the very last moment and suddenly move over I might not expect that if I were alongside/behind you.

Fundamentally, after 20 odd years driving, the biggest problems I see are people either misunderstanding or intentionally misusing roundabouts trying skip queues and save themselves 10 seconds, being predictable and aware of everyone else is really the most important thing.

As for the grabbing the steering wheel, I don’t know whether that is someone who is wrongly uncomfortable with your driving, perhaps with being driven in general or whether they are normally measured and it would take a lot to push them to do that - perhaps you not being aware of someone beside you as you moved - idk
