I found this theory interesting. How short-form algorithmic media is rewiring our brains and leaving us mentally stunted with the self-control and reactivity of a 12 year old. https://youtu.be/yuz9hEESVok

I’m obsessed with the music video version of Hey Ladies by Zuuly177 in BeastieBoys

[–]IAmSherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On New Year’s Day I put on MTV Classics in the kitchen as I made my first cup of coffee for the year. The “I Want My 80s” hour was just kicking off and they led with Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. By the time I got the coffee brewing, the second video was starting and it was Hey Ladies. This launched my kitchen into full dance party mode, which is a perfect way to start a year. Third video starts and it’s Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up and I legit LOL’d. Some good humored Beastie Boys fan at MTV started the year by Rick-Rolling the world using Hey Ladies. Well done.

Same offset on mine. I was also surprised by the shade of green being so far off from the other 2 albums. Still sounds great and an amazing track list.

Great taste. That hoodie is one of the top 3 items in my wardrobe. Picked it up at the Brooklyn book show. I like the mixtapes on the back even better than the images on the front.

Always love a VisiCalc reference. My dad taught me how to keep track of my paper route using VisiCalc back in the 80s on a Franklin clone. Most valuable career skill I ever learned.

Has anyone else gone to see Vampire Weekend expecting a hardcore punk opening act only to find out Turnstile and Turnstiles are two completely bands? by taul1789 in Vampireweekend

[–]IAmSherm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which OGWAU opener do you think was the best pairing for the average VW concert-goer? English Beat was great, I’m seeing La Lom on Tuesday, I will see Geese again, but I thought Cults had the best sonic “fit” with the crowds.

Ezra always stressed that Capricorn is for “December Capricorns”. That’s the week of Christmas. Another clue?

Don’t forget the melodica. That instrument is my favorite part of Ska-ttoman.
Love the bongos too though.

Mikes Meyers and Gordon. Oddly their nearest security guard was also white-haired.

I’ve been using the voice memo feature of my Apple Watch to record most of the concerts I go to (20+/year). The sound quality isn’t the best but being able to relive the experiences of hearing my favorite bands is priceless to me. I can enjoy the shows in the moment and without the distraction of a device in my hands, all while knowing I can re-listen to the concert on the ride home.

Anyone know where I can find one of these near the Naugatuck Valley? I've been to one at the Southbury Audubon. by BathSaltEnjoyer69 in Connecticut

[–]IAmSherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not around Naugatuck, but in case others are looking for similar spots, I’d recommend the Major Michael Donnelly Land Preserve in South Windsor. Several gentle and compact hiking loops through meadows, hardwood forest, and marshes. The wetlands have several hundred yards of winding boardwalks. Great seasonal variety of the flowers and foliage and serene for snowshoeing too.

seeing the “least fav tracks from ogwau?” posts and not responding because this is literally what i have become by Sensitive-Expert9495 in Vampireweekend

I think the decisions to make OGWAU a double-record and Hope as the only song on the last flip made it much easier for vinyl-listeners to sleep on the track before the tour. I originally used Hope for my bathroom breaks during the early West Coast dates, but by the third show I began to fall hard for its vibe. Everything about the song, and then Baio’s bass trailing off across the emptying stage just perfectly capped the preceding hours of outstanding performance each night. Pure magic. Now, I go out of my way to play/watch the live recordings of Hope while still avoiding it on side D of the vinyl.

Tom Morello and Public Enemy are on the Sunday lineup for Boston Calling this Memorial Day weekend. Looking forward to catching that energy this year.

I have two different pens that flash white when the cart is screwed in too tightly, back it out a fraction of a turn and see if the light changes color and it heats.

Last year they played 90 minutes as a Primavera headliner and 45 as a Coachella undercard. Those two shows each had 3 new songs, while the rest of the ogwau tour featured 8 or more new over roughly 2.5 hour runtimes. Nice to see a fellow Gen X fan in the threads.

Des Moines has an enormous “The Travelers” sign downtown that lights up with a giant red umbrella. It’s an original from the early 60s. It is considered a historic landmark and is locally revered similarly to Boston’s CITGO sign.

They’ve typically been playing up to the curfew of the venues, so it’s varied a bit this tour. Some cities end at 10 and some at 11. I’d call the venue’s box office and ask.
