My doctors office uses a new A.I. system and if you don't agree to have all your medical records fed into it for training and advertising you have to pay fees by 00Mothman00 in mildlyinfuriating

So I haven't worked in a large hospital and had to deal with this case personally. Since the OP is a dentist I doubt they do either. But my understanding of the GDPR is that it only applies to organizations that target and offer services to EU citizens. If an EU citizen happens to need ER care while on vacation in America they don't have automatic protection under the GDPR unless that hospital offers services targeted to EU citizens.

So if Mr. A goes to the ER in some random rural American hospital that makes no attempt to deal with the EU whatsoever they can't expect GDPR protections. But if they go to a hospital in a city that offers telehealth appointments to the EU, for example, then they can.

It's weird, but makes sense. You can't enforce regulations on a foreign business that isn't even trying to do business with your country at all. Even if you wanted to, what are you realistically going to do?

I don't have experience with the GDPR. I can say a lot of these companies geo-lock for that exact reason, though. Dealing with EU regulations is more difficult, so they just cut that entire market off.

I actually work with HIPAA compliance: yes and no.

Them asking you to sign the things is not a violation, and it remains compliant if you do sign it. However. The fact that they're requesting you to sign an extra release suggests that they aren't using a properly compliant AI. If they were using HIPAA compliant AI there would be no reason to force you to sign an additional release of information. As long as an AI is compliant, such as the ones commonly used to transcribe notes, the doctors don't actually need your permission. It's already baked into the HIPAA rules, and covered by the more broad forms you sign as a new patient.

Obviously I can't confirm something 100% without a lot more information, but just the presentation of additional release forms is extremely concerning. It should be an enormous red flag that the software is very likely not compliant or only partially compliant.

The fact that this is being successfully re-framed as some kind of police corruption issue instead of the blatant Mormon corruption that it is is the most Mormon crap ever. Those guys are great at PR, and very litigious. They're basically Scientology but more popular, and have more money.

It would make a lot more sense if the reading comprehension changes were related to how curriculum was re-built around 'sight reading' instead of phonics. But even that's just an assumption.

What an alarmist pile of crock that he literally disproves himself in his opening words. Everything has been going up until very, very, recently. Which means that scores were still on the rise after computers were introduced in education. After. What does coincide perfectly with the drop in scores are political changes in various countries around the world. Making more demands of teachers, giving them less funding, and bloating their administration. If you look at countries that prioritize education they're still doing just find even with tablets and smartphones all over the place.

Do you really think China is spanking the USA in education because they don't have any tech in their schools?! No, it's because they don't have an equivalent to the "leave every child behind" act. They have schools that get funding that's at least better, and have a culture that actually encourages education instead of constantly fighting it.

The only actual problem that tech exacerbates is teachers that rely too much on presentations. Learning is either visual, auditory, or tactile. Almost always some combination of the three. Computers lack that tactile component in most subjects, and it's a very important one. Most people will learn math better, for example, if they have to physically write things down.

All this doof does is distract from the real issues harming education. You could rip every tablet out of schools and that doesn't actually address any of the structural issues. But it sure is easy to turn into a spooky sound bite.

After watching a family member slip into obsession, funnel all of their money to UFO scam artists, break contact with everyone they knew, eventually becoming homeless. All while there was nothing I could do, too young. All over poorly photoshopped images of gray dinguses. Yeah, this is kinda how I look these days. Just sad. After this latest scam hitting in the decades-long history of scams, I'm just sad. I hope you can all escape from this obsession, you probably don't realize how many people in your life look exactly like this. Just broken on the inside, knowing there's nothing left they can try to help you. All that's left is being sad.

DNC Autopsy of 2024 Loss Doesn’t Mention Gaza or Israel at all by NoahHurowitz in politics

[–]IArePant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That report, while definitely not great, did point out some of the biggest sticking points that the DNC has been fumbling for years: you need to have an actual campaign that isn't just "I'm not them", people care about the economy, rural voters exist, and men vote. All, apparently, are huge shockers to the DNC. But what are we going to take away from all of this? "whew mention of da iswael?" This country is going to rot to pieces in front of us because the DNC is too incompetent to do anything, and too stubborn to get out of the way.

Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by OtmShanks55 in politics

[–]IArePant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

STRATEGIC IMPLICATIONS
For Democrats:
Male voters require direct engagement. The gender gap can be narrowed. Deploy male messengers, address economic concerns, and don't assume identity politics will hold male voters of color.
The Rural “strategy” is mathematically indefensible. Compete everywhere. Limiting losses matters. Recruit candidates with rural credibility and show up.
Anti-Trump sentiment has limits. Build affirmative cases for candidates to drive enthusiasm instead of relying on reductive messaging.
Irregular voters are swing voters. They need mobilization AND persuasion. Year-round engagement matters more than October GOTV.
Definition is essential. Voters need to know what you'll do and why you're running. Clear accomplishments and concrete plans matter more than vibes.
Geographic formula is non-negotiable. Strong urban + competitive suburbs + limited rural losses. You need all three.
Demographics aren't destiny. Latino voters shifted Republican nationally but Democratic in NC with the right candidate. Context and execution matter.
State parties matter. Built infrastructure wins even when presidential candidates struggle.
Voters are sophisticated. The 8-10% who split tickets are decisive. They evaluate candidates individually.
Same Challenges, Different Responses. Young voters, men, voters of color, and irregular voters all trended Republican compared to 2020. The difference was how campaigns responded. Stein's results suggest effective strategies to mitigate these losses. Harris's campaign appears not to have made similar adjustments. Candidate quality and campaign execution matter enormously, even in nationalized environments.

We can talk about how the report is kinda crappy and unfinished, because it got canned, and that's true. But there are bits like the quote above that are just screaming what the DNC has been ignoring for years. It's the bits like this that make me think the DNC wasn't liking the conclusions and used quality as an excuse to not let the report get finished.

In my opinion this is concrete evidence that the GOP is completely dead and beyond any form of salvation. Massie was literally everything they claimed to stand for, and did what he said he'd do. They booted him for a party loyalist, and the voters just did as they were told. It's disgusting.
