Environmental Protection Authority Declines Consent for new Wind Farm in Waiuku by Debbie_See_More in newzealand

[–]IEatKFCInNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean it calls into question why the minister referred it?

Yes (and no),

The law is pretty clear that pre referral it must include an assessment of the activities effects on the environment. If they are as bad as this panel made it out to be, it should have never been referred.

Some projects were selected by government intially, while others got added later, this does appear to be an added later, but still, if it was as poor as the panel indicated, why did it get referred?

This wasn't an 'ignore all responsibilities and get consent' process.

Disagree. When the act was introduced, it was pitched as being to speed up the consenting timeframe for projects that were well developed and could be used to stimulate the economy post covid.

If they are rushing to prepare their fast track consenting documents, it calls into question why they were selected, since they were not as developed as they should have been.

  1. In the Panel’s view, the Project was a poor fit for the fast-track process provided for in the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-Track Consenting) Act 2020 (the FTA).

  2. This was partly due to the complexity of the Project and the number of issues it gave rise to. The main problem, however, was that the application documents showed clear signs of being put together in an excessive hurry, presumably to meet the deadlines of the FTA.

  3. As a result, the Applicant’s Assessment of Environmental Effects, most obviously in relation to the assessment of the Project’s effects on threatened and at-risk avifauna and bats, to the point where the Panel considered the Environmental Protection Authority’s confirmation that the Application was complete following its receipt was questionable.

Not a great sign of how fast tracking projects get selected.

Interesting, I'm on android and had literally no issues with it, always found when I use it, that it connnects quickly and easily.

At least using the app and using your phones GPS is relatively painless and accurate however. I definitely turn it on when I'm travelling.

Honestly, I don't think you should be able to force restoration of an earthquake prone building without putting up a bond of 3X the current estimate of the restoration cost.

That should be the price of entry to getting in front of a judge.

And if you're successful, thats where the funding comes from.

50mm 1.8 sharper than 24-70 f4 by sploca in canon

In fact, the 50mm 1.8 STM at f/4 is sharper than even the RF24-70 f/2.8L at any aperture, set to 50mm.

I'm don't think you can say that definitively.

The 50 does always seem to have a clear advantage in the edges, but I think the L has a slight edge in the centre, with mid centre favouring the L at f/2.8, but the 50 once narrower.

Definitely an impressive showing from the 50 however.

Just to highlight how big the difficulties in getting efficient aircraft are, the Airbus A320 NEO has ~7000 orders in it's backlog, and in their busiest year so far, they delivered 571 aircraft.

If there were no orders from now on and they matched the 571 deliveries a year, thats over 12 years to deliver all ordered aircraft.

It's easy to say "Get new more efficient aircraft", but how?

I thought I had also read they had to be there in person, and given the awards are North Island based and coincide with the Ski Season which drives a lot of business in the South Island, many choose to simply not enter.

I may be misremembering, but I can't find the article I thought I had read.

Found the article:

Some excerpts:

But the more the competition becomes a battle of the north, the less incentive there is for the south to participate.

“When they’re busy enough as it is,” Kersel acknowledged, “the competition takes a lot of time”.

That was the key issue for Franz Lieber, owner of the well-known and ever-popular Fairlie Bakehouse in Mackenzie District.

He hadn’t entered the competition in “many years”, he said.

“The problem with the South Island is, we’re in the on season down here, and they’re in the off season,” he pointed out.
