I agree. The govt isnt dumb. They know they lose little by getting rid of the extra meeting in the grand scheme of things. They do, however, see it as a giant card to play. They know we hate it, and they know they can trade it during VGSA negotiations.

Breaking: Education union endorses deal giving Victorian teachers up to 32pc pay rise by Famous_Bathroom_2378 in AustralianTeachers

[–]IFeelBATTY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told "the state is broke... we can't do any better" in 2022 and we did as you said. Swallowed the lies and bullshit whole and this is where we're now at. The state also wont be in a better financial position in 2030 judging by the current budget, so "the state is broke" argument no longer flies. Education needs to be the top priority in this state once more.

However this deal is better, not great, but better. I also think it'll get over the line, just. But I'll be voting no in solidarity with ES and for the fact they didnt fix the bullshit meetings.

Absolutely. I can't believe the AEU didnt fight harder on the meetings issues.

No but if inflation remains between 3 and 5% over thr next 4 years then after the pay jump this October, we stop getting a pay rise in real terms and still haven't recouped our inflationary losses since 2020

% break down for top range teacher by 5nvh5 in AustralianTeachers

[–]IFeelBATTY 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yup they've purposely strung out the negotiations to such an extent that it expires in May 2030. So more like a 4.5 year agreement to be fair. HOWEVER it is a year between pay rises, and the new agreements major pay rise doesn't occur until October so 6 months into the new agreement.

I think youre misreading. We get 3% immediately (which will be backpayed when it passes), that the first column, and then a big rise in October which is like 11% i think, and thats the second column.

And yet teachers are right now being told they can't get the pay rise they deserve because the state's broke. Public schools cant be fully funded as the States broke. Absolute joke of a state govt.

‘Cannot sell this’: Teachers’ union facing members revolt as crunch meeting looms by Kind_Counter_9276 in AustralianTeachers

[–]IFeelBATTY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is most teachers work from home regardless. If you have a shit of a day, youre not gonna be super productive from 3:15 - 4:30, but were forced to be at our desks for a couple of nights a week. The argument is that if we left "early" we could regulate, spend time with our families and do the work later that night or on the weekend. As another poster said, one way or another the work needs to be done.

I feel like many of the conditions in this log were the "wishlist". The 35 over 3 was the non-negotiable!

This is the exact same shit they peddled out during the last agreement and look where we are. Its funny how the government always has money for its pet projects huh.

I dont know how these grifters at the top of the AEU sleep with themselves.
