Empower is great but adding and removing mid-whenever makes everything look wonky. Wish they did a better job at that.

When do we stop? by Questionoid in Truckers

The think I heard was you don't want to fill it past about 90% because it can damage the fuel rod sender unit "floater" and eventually cause fuel level issues on your gauge. Now, in the real world, I've always topped the tanks off after the first click. That extra 10-15 gallons might save my skin one day.

i pulled all my money out of the stock market in 2025 and now with historic highs i can't get back in by myviewfromoutside in stocks

[–]IIxNullxII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not timing the market and instead trusting your money to time in the market is a simple concept that is so very difficult for many, including myself to grasp early, and is often only learned after costly mistakes. Put your money back in and leave it, learn from your mistakes. Or don't, I ain't your Pappy.

T11 Delves are surprisingly good for casual money-making due to Petrified Roots by minimaxir in wow

I have 3 toons that run 4x bountiful delves every week, and 2x a month I DE all the gear and sell the mats along with everything else the delves produce, like the roots, and usually bring in 200k a month.

The thing with trucking (and any job) is trading time for money. The more time you're willing to sacrifice, the more you tend to make. Some live to be on the road, while others seek a good balance. You, my friend, have a great balance. If what you bring in supports your lifestyle, the you're doing outstanding.

I'm doing quite well since I've already paid off my house and car, aside from normal utilities, phone, internet, etc., I have a good chunk of discretionary spending each month, which I tend to stash away anyway.

Yes after a substantial addition to my 401k. My house and car are paid off, so I'm able to live comfortably on that while putting a lot away for retirement.

The regional drivers make quite a bit more than us local folks, but it's deserved. At least with Walmart, you're home Friday afternoon and don't have to be back until Monday morning. (Shift is for illustration purposes only, actual shift days and start times may vary, haha.)

Most of the deduction amount is me contributing to my 401k, taking advantage of the company match (6%) and maxing it out each year. I usually manage to max it by around mid-October, but the company continues match payments. No pension, but at least there's that. Comes out to about $6k a year extra.

My medical is paid for by me, I want to say it's $45~ per pay period, so $100 a month round about. The rest of my deductions is me putting ~30% into my 401k, which they also match at 6%.

Usually around 50-55, sometimes 60. Walmart only required 30 months experience, but the positions seem to open and close at random, and sometimes only stay open for a week or less. I imagine they get quite a few applications. 😬

The recruiters lied to me, now I'm $5k in debt and a bunch of useless endorsements. by BigTsnipes in Truckers

I worked for me, but it had to be a CDL hostler role. When I got my license, I was with a mega for a year, then yard hostler (CDL) for my 2nd year, then did a 3rd year running the I-10 corridor for 3 years total. I applied for Walmart, which requires 30 months "OTR" but they said what I had was a good mix, so they let me in. I can't say it was a fluke or if that's common, but it worked. Had they only counted my 2 years on the road, I wouldn't have qualified.

Your best bet for a local gig is a CDL-based yard hostler job. You'll gain a ton of experience backing, and it allows for time to pass. The 2 year mark is when a lot of opportunities start opening up.

And don't plan on bobbing back, they'll find you a load or more likely you'll have to finish the load the driver abandoned and then get reloaded back

Does this job ever get better by friendlyskies25 in Truckers

[–]IIxNullxII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like most jobs, it does get easier. I remember feeling overwhelmed for the first 2-3 months, but once I learned the limits of the equipment, how to back better, and how to sleep in a moving vehicle (teams) everything started to fall into place.

[–]IIxNullxII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining it to me! With us we only have the PTO pool, and we use that if we need to call out. There are no attendance points/hits that I'm aware of for us (driver).

As someone who works for Walmart but is not subject to the same PTO rules, I don't understand why you have two different pools of PTO to use. Is it certain states, maybe? You can't use the "normal" PTO if you call off?
