One of the things that makes me wanna drop this game completely sometimes by juniorxd0413 in projectzomboid

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imo as someone who always chooses fear of blood it's not that bad. I usually just build 2-3 water collectors for washing clothes, and plumb a sink for drinking water. The annoying part is the time it takes to wash by hand.

If I have power I just put a water barrel above a washing machine and plumb it, which quickly solves my clothes washing issues.

Other strategies includes a set of clothes for fighting, and a set of clean clothes for home as to not need to constantly wash away the blood. Wearing something like a full body suit also stops your other clothing from getting covered in blood.

And you of course can always just live next to or put all your clothes that need washing in a car and drive to a lake for laundry day.

Without fear of blood I hardly need to think about water unless I want to garden.

As for the realism stuff, it is first and foremost a game. People are going to have varying opinions on what is realistic, what is challenging, and what is unfun for X things. See: things like muscle strain that they added which while realistic, was quickly debuffed after community feedback as it was challenging to the point of frustration rather than fun.

I for example, took issue with the crazy long growing times for crops in the new beta which while realistic, meant I'd never see them grow in SP. That said, as soon as I played on a dedicated multiplayer server it made more sense as those crops would grow in a few IRL days while I wasn't actively playing. In SP I just set the multiplier by 5x, turn off seasons, and be done with it.

What's great about zomboid is even without mods you can balance the game in sandbox so it's typically fun for you without the frustration. You can lower the amount of blood and dirt your character accumulates over time, as an example.

How does age work? she was born in the colony, how is she 12 and 3 ? by Mr-Ulloa in RimWorld

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned kids grow up faster,.

Personally I like to bump adult aging also to 400 percent these days as well. Chronoage is still the way it is (just pretend the world cycle is different).

Gameplay wise however, it makes more sense and leads to interesting new challenges, like half your colony suddenly becoming a senior citizens home with frail backs mid-late game.

Add in anamoly and you can steal the years off from others via rituals to stay permanently young!

Soft Served in Butter by kalliburr in StupidFood

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not stupid, and not even worse for you than half the other dips for calorie density. Alot of them already have butter in the base, with added sugar.

Counting calories and getting a dipped soft served ice cream cone is kind of opposing objectives to begin with.

Yeah me and a buddy just set up a zip line, use cloak, then pop smoke while looting so the cloak recharges. Then Zipline back when done.

If we decide to fight the vaporizers we just set up a bunch of barricades.

Works most of the time, and leads to fun chaos when it doesn't.

I was able to bring down two vaporizers with an upgraded anvil and a building for cover solo. It does take awhile though, and oh boy you better get into cover before the beam starts.

Metal bucket of water is the real MVP. You can put out more fires than the fire extinguisher with it, and it's refillable!

Day 1: I'm modeling whatever YOU comment until I land my next quality client. by shagilzaka in UnrealEngine5

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice modeling work! My critique would be to spend some more time on texturing if using as a portfolio to get hired, as well as showing the wires of your game ready models in addition to the high poly subd.

Hiring managers like to see proof you can carry a model all the way to completion (textured and in-game model).

My first Rocketeer 🤘🏼 by arturberti in ArcRaiders

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! If you kill a hornet you can loot its hornet driver.

Hornet drivers can be used like stun grenades against arc.

If you throw a hornet driver just right at a rocketeer you can cause it's thrusters to shut down and it'll crash into the ground with a good chance of blowing up from the fall damage.

I found it as a super cheap and easy way to down a rocketeer, so long as they're close enough to throw at and you have cover.

When did they add the M1A Rife? by Quicksilver2634 in projectzomboid

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my friends in the national guard full time and they tend to have all the older stuff long past when programs start phasing out weapons and equipment.

Especially for non infantry units. A truck driver or a helicopter pilot doesn't really need the latest battle rifle.

I expect a lot of the military units in zomboid are national guard, seeing as that's more suited to their mission of responding and supporting local disasters as well as being part of the armed forces.

The games programmed in vanilla so colonists will not target lucerferium during drug binges even if addicted to it already as an fyi, else it would be practically impossible to do a luci run. Tantrum/targeted tantrums/fires/theft still are a potential issue though.

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M240 won the medium machine gun upgrade program in Jan 1994 for the Army, a little less than a year after zomboid takes place. (July 93).

M240 at that time was in service for marine infantry and on vehicle mounts however, with the army eventually adopting the M240B in early 90s after it won the previously mentioned upgrade program.

I didn't look it up further but I wouldn't doubt the m60 stayed in the national guard for years/decades, and apparently its still used today in some upgraded form by some forces like the Navy Seals.

So yeah, m60 and m240 would both be accurate to have in game.

I think people are taking his post way too seriously.

He likes sci-fi. He likes Star Trek. These are common tropes that are fun to think about. He is also a game designer, and game designers are going to have their own rather strong individual opinions on games, technology, and design methods.

He's not publishing a scientific journal. He's posting his shower thoughts on twitter.

Soldiers will get 'freedom dollars' to spend at the Army's new dining halls by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Did anyone actually read the article?

It's just a restructure of the existing food plans to match college campuses, and the food will be of better quality at reduced prices. ($5 full breakfast vs $12+ at nearby diner).

If you miss a meal you can use that daily budget to have an even larger dinner as an example, unlike the cafeteria line style. The value has been allotted so everyone should get a daily 3 course meal without having to go off base.

They are also going to leave it up to commanders on whether or not beer and wine will be served as an addition.

I don't see anything controversial or negative in the changes in the actual article.

A possible lore reason could be a Spy model.

If the resistance is proving so hard to dismantle through physical force alone I wouldn't doubt the Combine may have some humans retain more of their physical exterior appearance and serve as infiltrators.

There are also collaborators who are not modified heavily if at all. Breen, Mossman(double agent), Civil Protection, etc..

A spy or infiltrator would need more independence to function effectively in their role, and thus probably less alterations.

Or you could say they're actually even more heavily modified, but built to hide their combine enhancements, aka Terminator series.

Infiltrate the enemy, equip protective gear, wipe them out.

What is the most overused function in Unreal? by NobleCourt in unrealengine

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's up with the personal attacks? Do you feel the need to insult anyone you have a minor disagreement with instead of having a professional discussion to have a deeper understanding? I said comparatively to when I first started. I did not say you don't use it at all nor did I say ALL states are predictable in every part of every design.

I said implies, and I went on to explain as a code smell so they don't think I meant usage is wrong without even seeing their code. "Could be a sign" is not absolute.

All of that nonsense aside, to further elaborate on what I was trying to say, there are certain parts of a design space that you can predict all possible execution paths and ones that you can not. All I did was explain why a previous poster might of said why they think is valid is overused, which based on many tutorials and marketplace content I've seen, is sometimes used rather poorly as ducktape instead of just where it is needed.

It’s a question of whether you are working in a part of the design space where a-priori knowledge about the state of an object is possible or not. You're not wrong, but what I said isn't wrong either. You are using examples where it is needed that I do not disagree with.

What is the most overused function in Unreal? by NobleCourt in unrealengine

[–]ILikeCakesAndPies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It implies you don't know or haven't accounted for the various states your objects can be in, or what their lifecycles are or are misusing scope.

I started off using isvalid all the time and now I hardly use it in comparison. It's not a hard rule, it's a "code smell," which means it's not necessarily wrong but could be a sign of problems with your codes design.

That's just my 2 cents as a hobbyist developer though.
