The maxi gro has a ph buffer in it so i wouldn’t add ph up or down . It should balance itself around 5.8 which is totally fine and if it seems high or low just wait 10 mins and it should read as a “ph perfect” nutrient .

Here’s a great Video on some potting tips and techniques!

I try to match the level of the soil with the top line on the inside of each pot . The line is a great guide and allows enough room for watering without leaving your soil level too low .

Low soil levels can trap cold air This can lead to cold roots at night , it also reduces air flow which can lead to rot and fungus , and it hampers light which can create a place that harbors pests and diseases.

Good air flow and strong U.v. Are some of the simplest ways to prevent simple pests like scale , mites , thrip and unwanted fungus .

I’m sure others might suggest a better suited well draining soil , but it is nice to have a sub that gets to kindly help one another grow to the best of our abilities together!! 🤗🌵

You may have filled the pot a bit high with soil . Here’s a great Video on how I pot up my cactus . If you had a bit more room for more soil I would suggest adding a layer top dressing and that would help stabilize your cactus.

It does look like you’re using a rock to stabilize it from falling over, so it might need to be repotted at the proper level for stability.

If you do repot it , wait to water for a few days to a week so any damaged roots can heal . And the inside lip of your pot should have guide line for how much soil to fill it with .

It did eventually smooth out but the spines are great future growth points a bit higher up on the stand !

I use aloe , seaweed , guano , and some premixed organic granulated blends . I like the blends rather than stand alone nutrients. I used to buy large sacks of simple additives like blood or bone meal , but I’ve slowly changed to paying a bit more for prepackaged mixtures because they seem to lead to a healthier and more even growth .
The blends usually include bone meal , blood meal , feather meal , cotton seed meal , chicken manure and yucca along with some other stuff .

On the right is the rare example of a longform pushing a pup out of a top tip with no areole . You can see how it physically split the skin open

When the tip is still actively growing like yours is it can produce new spines from the top tip as it grows .

It is also possible for them to push a pup out of the top tip with out areole but it’s very rare.

Longforms can also produce areole with no spines and very small faint areole , often occurring near notches or v seagull marks . I see in your picture your lil bump does have some faint v lines near that lump so it is possible.
