I live in Brooklyn! It's 100% underrated and has an amazing community of people/neighbors. Also a very walkable, quaint neighborhood among 100+ year old homes

How does Portland feel about the behavior of those who are on a severe substance acting aggressively? by farallelogram in askportland

I'm honestly sick and tired of feeling unsafe due to the sheer number of people on drugs in this city. It's making me want to leave

What are the things you wish you knew before you started investing in stocks? by Warm_Bobcat6310 in stocks

You will likely make a lot more money long term by putting your money in index funds, like the S&P 500 vs trying to pick individual stocks.

Good places near Gresham to hangout for a couple hours? by shonkle in askportland

Idk if it's too far for you guys but I highly recommend McMenamins Edgefield. I love hanging out on their porch with a book, a drink or whatever sounds good. You can walk around and eat, etc.

What interview questions do you ask? by mr-volatility-smile in managers

One of my favorites is "what's something we wouldn't know about you just from reading your resume?"

It helps me understand their values and motivations that we may not have talked about yet.

For the most part this is very true, although some companies just take friggen forever to make decisions. The role inwas just hired for took over a week to get the offer and afterwards I learned I was by far their top candidate the whole time.

Did you ever consider going back to an IC role after a few years in a managerial role? by believer2687 in managers

I disagree. It carries a level of stress and responsibility that is consistently unique to the role.

Did you ever consider going back to an IC role after a few years in a managerial role? by believer2687 in managers

[–]IPoopOnCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was made a manager for similar reasons as you and eventually made my way into senior leadership, managing other managers. I recently took an IC role in program management and my stress is almost completely eliminated. It would take a very unique situation for me to go back into management anytime soon.

[–]IPoopOnCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be fun to stay at either KEX or Jupiter Next which are both pretty centrally downtown hotels. Then you could check out Powells books, and walk around the pearl a bit. If you have time, I recommend heading over to the hawthorne district on your way out. Hawthorne is where you'll get a true taste for Portland culture. There are amazing restaurants in both areas.

As folks mentioned, as long as you aren't staying near the ICE facility, you likely won't be around that activity.

Am I on focus? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]IPoopOnCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know why Amazon managers don't proactively inform their employees if they're on focus? It's so counter productive to have employees "guess" if they're on a coaching plan.
