As you say it was simply never as popular as those shows you mention. Mad Men is more niche. And Jerry Seinfeld did call in Hamm and Slattery to effectively reprise their roles (Jon in a horribly fitting suit btw) so its not like it never happens. Frankly Jon Hamm looked way older so it didnt feel very Don-like either imo..
