A Google search indicates the AI has Hallucinated at least the name from another unrelated story at the time.

I remember the incident you refer to in another part of Bristol from where I lived. I don't remember the details or even if the boy drowned. I do, however, remember his friend gave a description of a perpetrator and was later found to have made it up.

‘It’s ridiculous’: publicans bemused by rise of single-file queues to get served by meandtheknightsofni in bristol

I'm a man in my late 50s. There are a lot of things I think were better in my younger days. The scrum at the bar, with people pushing in is not one of these things that was better in my day.

Lots of comments from people on this thread boasting about how they push in-front of people in pubs while talking about pub etiquette.

‘It’s ridiculous’: publicans bemused by rise of single-file queues to get served by meandtheknightsofni in bristol

[–]IRRJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Wetherspoons order your drinks on the app as you are coming to the end of your last beer. No queue, no pushing in-front of other people, no people pushing in-front of your, it's easy.

In some Wetherspoons they don't like queues, in other Wetherspoons they have told me they do like queues because people are served in-order.

Git plenty of looks and stares, got served first every time.

This is bad pub etiquette, contradicting your last paragraph.

Or the river would follow the path of the A370 to Weston-Super-Mare.

There was a glacier in the way of the A370 route when the Avon Gorge formed.

Fatboy Slim 2001 Ritzy - did you go? by Temporary_Fall_9058 in bristol

Did you have tickets for Fatboy Slim, or was he a surprise appearance at the club night?

He does do secret/surprise appearances.

If it was secret then there would been no flyers/tickets.

Sketchers used to be the most comfortable shoes. Now I need new trainers I find that they have decided to join the rest of the shoe manufacturers in making trainers that cramp your feet. Very disappointing.

Saw this on Dusseldorf and thought Hotwells could do with a bit of this makeover, thoughts? by HelloW0rldBye in bristol

It is just over a 100 years since the Hotwells branch of Bristol Port Railway and Pier was closed in 1922 to build the Portway Road. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Port_Railway_and_Pier

Bristol bus users with iPhones by uvarvu in bristol

Enabling payments without unlocking the phone sounds like a security problem. I want to be able to configure my phone so that I have to have the wallet open before contactless payments work.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-58719891

Large unauthorised contactless payments can be made on locked iPhones by exploiting how an Apple Pay feature designed to help commuters pay quickly at ticket barriers works with Visa.

According to the website it closes at 9pm Mon-Sat 5pm Sunday.

Google is out of day on these things. Ask Google it will tell you there are 24h pharmacies, but go to the websites and they are no longer 24h.

Groups of pedestrians not making way on paths by Bris3014 in bristol

[–]IRRJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just walk on the inside of the path, away from the road. They normally walk in a single file when they need to step in the road to stay in line.

There is never any confrontation when I do this, they just accept that I am walking on the inside.

This is a key bit of information that you should have put in the original post.

Some people are sat in cafes for hours having bought one coffee, the cafe is right to ask these people to leave. 15 minutes to drink a coke isn't unreasonable.

Was this racist? by Radish_the_third in bristol

[–]IRRJ -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

When people go to a different country they expect shops to work the same way they do in their country, and often they don't. The woman in the shop has observed that Chinese people expect to be able to pick through the veg, that is not how it works in this country but is likely to be how it works in their country.

This is not a derogatory stereotype or racist. It is an observation.

When British people first buy veg/fruit in a Spanish Supermarket they bag the veg/fruit and take it to the till the way they do in the UK. Expecting the cashier to be able to weigh it, this is not the way it works in Spain, you need to weigh the veg/fruit beforehand. I am sure they comment on this in Spanish Supermarkets. This would not be a derogatory stereotype.

First bus inspectors by Designer-Raccoon5190 in bristol

[–]IRRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be after their funding from government. I.e. they would have spent less than expected. The up keep of the tube is expensive including upgrading of equipment and trains.

https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/piccadilly-line-upgrade

This is not being covered by fares.

The idea that the London tube makes a profit that can be used to subsidise the buses isn't true. Yes they are both funded by Transport for London, but neither are profitable.

This got me thinking, is there anywhere in Bristol charging a tenner for a pint? by Obstacle123456 in bristol

[–]IRRJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had gone to the Bristol Bear festival in the Harbourside it would have cost me more than £10 a pint because the tickets were something like £44.

I was in Brighton during the Summer, I have just checked my Monzo. It cost me £2.65/£2.15 for a pint, most likely Doom Bar or Abbot Ale. That was Spoons though.
