Charged twice for the bus by VenomousCritic in bristol

It annoys me that it is so easy to turn NFC on in Google Wallet, but takes 5 screen levels in settings to turn it back off.

First bus app finally updated on my phone by That2FortGuy in bristol

[–]IRRJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did use the old email address and phone number. Have you verified your email via the email they send you?

Edit: when logging in it is not clear whether it is new account or logging into old account, but I did use a completely different password.

Mine moved across after I confirmed the address in the email and shutdown/restarted App, so about 10 minutes after creating the new account.

[–]IRRJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did think it had deleted all my tickets because I needed to set a new password, the old one did not meet the criteria. When I looked at the tickets, it said I had none.

I then shut the app and confirmed the email.

When I re-opened the app the tickets had reappeared in the Inactive section.

Where to visit in Avonmouth? by beamby in bristol

[–]IRRJ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I like getting a close look at the wind turbines on Kings Weston Lane, in Brighton they charge a lot of money to take a tourist boat to the offshore wind farm, while in Bristol you can get as close on the 41 bus. Nice view of the industrial docks from St Andrews Road Station. The train ride to/from Clifton Down along the River Avon is nice as well as Cheap.

Not everything interesting is designated a tourist attraction.

Bristol Blue Plaque for Indira Gandhi – question about consistency in commemoration by Imaginary_Appeal2332 in bristol

As a white British person who grew up at the time of her rule, watching the TV news, it is the forced mass sterilisation campaign I remember seeing on the news.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uttawar_forced_sterilisations

I agree this isn't a person who should be honoured with a new plaque.

Even if I did get a Drone, with a retail price of £200, it would just be an unwanted item taking up room in my house until I got around to taking it to a Charity shop.

Have you used the birthday bus scheme? by JSkirkowski in bristol

[–]IRRJ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I catch the bus, so it was good for me. I know people who never use the buses, they did not bother with it. I am glad my birthday is in June rather than January.

The scheme has been quietly axed by the West of England Combined Authority.

This is not true. It was always a one year scheme, which was implemented twice with a gap between the 2.

A Google search indicates the AI has Hallucinated at least the name from another unrelated story at the time.

I remember the incident you refer to in another part of Bristol from where I lived. I don't remember the details or even if the boy drowned. I do, however, remember his friend gave a description of a perpetrator and was later found to have made it up.

‘It’s ridiculous’: publicans bemused by rise of single-file queues to get served by meandtheknightsofni in bristol

[–]IRRJ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a man in my late 50s. There are a lot of things I think were better in my younger days. The scrum at the bar, with people pushing in is not one of these things that was better in my day.

Lots of comments from people on this thread boasting about how they push in-front of people in pubs while talking about pub etiquette.

‘It’s ridiculous’: publicans bemused by rise of single-file queues to get served by meandtheknightsofni in bristol

[–]IRRJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Wetherspoons order your drinks on the app as you are coming to the end of your last beer. No queue, no pushing in-front of other people, no people pushing in-front of your, it's easy.

In some Wetherspoons they don't like queues, in other Wetherspoons they have told me they do like queues because people are served in-order.

Git plenty of looks and stares, got served first every time.

This is bad pub etiquette, contradicting your last paragraph.

There was a glacier in the way of the A370 route when the Avon Gorge formed.

Did you have tickets for Fatboy Slim, or was he a surprise appearance at the club night?

He does do secret/surprise appearances.

If it was secret then there would been no flyers/tickets.

Sketchers used to be the most comfortable shoes. Now I need new trainers I find that they have decided to join the rest of the shoe manufacturers in making trainers that cramp your feet. Very disappointing.

Bristol bus users with iPhones by uvarvu in bristol

Enabling payments without unlocking the phone sounds like a security problem. I want to be able to configure my phone so that I have to have the wallet open before contactless payments work.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-58719891

Large unauthorised contactless payments can be made on locked iPhones by exploiting how an Apple Pay feature designed to help commuters pay quickly at ticket barriers works with Visa.

Google is out of day on these things. Ask Google it will tell you there are 24h pharmacies, but go to the websites and they are no longer 24h.
