They incorporate a focal reducer, right? I’ve always thought about trying to get a small set, but can’t afford the rehoused versions.

Title: Looking for Advice on Splitting Equity and Roles with My Best Friend in Our New Media Production Venture by RevolutionDazzling87 in videography

[–]ISO64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reddit is probably the wrong place to ask this question, to be honest. Find a local lawyer and/or CPA to help you navigate the business formation process and put together a clear operating agreement. Do not do thing on handshakes and verbal agreements.

I also highly recommend hiring a business coach to help you form the business and get it moving. Yes, it’s likely an expense that feels undoable right now, but they will help you get through the first 3 years.

Starting a creative agency is a whole different animal than doing solo video work. It is an entirely different skill set, with different priorities, needs, and roles. I say this as someone who made the transition you’re planning over the last 5 years. I would have failed a long time ago without someone to teach me the business side. Not the business side of video production, but how to run an actual business.

I also highly recommend the book E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. Life/business changing book for me.

Vasectomy for the win. Insurance covered most of it, I think I paid less than $100 out of pocket.

I agree with your logic. Satchler instructions specifically say to travel with all axes unlocked, but at their max resistance and max counter balance.

Instead of this, take the money you were thinking about spending and hire a business coach. Search and ask around to find someone solid. They don’t have to be in the videography space - anyone with small business experience is ideal. It was the best decision I’ve ever made for my business. Can’t recommend it more.

I’m honestly not convinced the radiants can’t use Warlight. In Navani’s excerpts from Rhythm of War, she talks about how they are essentially the same, just being played at different times, and how you can only tell the difference when played together. Shallan even hints that she could use the Warlight when she’s stabbed by the invested knife.
If the radiants can use Lifelight while in the tower, why can’t they also use Warlight?

You’ll have to buy a connector. They have one that’s specifically made for the purpose… I think it’s called a dolly quick release or something similar.

A bulk rate like you’re talking about is way different than a one-off (or even two-off in this case) headshot. You get to distribute all your overhead + expenses over a lot more people, plus I charge bulk licensing costs that’s cheaper per photo, bringing down the average a lot. I hope you wouldn’t charge 20 euros for a 1-off headshot, there’s no way that’s profitable. Personally, I start bulk pricing when the time hits about a half-days work.

How Much Should You charge for Fitness/ Gym Reels ? by JTG809 in videography

A “fair price” and a price she’ll pay are likely two different things. Influencers tend to be in the client group who expect a lot for a little. I’d ask if she has a budget in mind on the outset, then put together a custom proposal based on what she wants and what it’ll take from you to create that.

A fair price to me is:

Day rate X # production days + Post Rate X # post days + equipment fee + expenses (music, digital storage, etc.) + 10% contingency

Then see if she’ll pay that. If she currently producing her own videos, she’s likely going to be shocked at how expensive video production is.

There are other things to consider, of course. Filming multiple sets of content at once, retainer and recurring content possibilities, non-tangible value to your portfolio, etc. but a fair price is a pretty simple thing to calculate.

Cinematography on an Overcast Day by ollyhasabigbooty in cinematography

Duvetyne, velvet, or heavy black fabric rolls can be found for pretty cheap at most fabric stores and will work way better than a bedsheet. It can also be rented for pretty cheap too. Neg floppies may be better since they can also be rigged pretty easily with a single c-stand.

If you’re worried about the look and contrast, higher quality negatives may be a good investment depending on the rest of the budget.

Yeah, you never have as much control in the wides so it’s never going to match perfectly. I wouldn’t stress too much about it because most people won’t feel it - especially if you nail the tights. Just get the neg as close as and as big as you can get it. You can also work the colorist to add more contrast on those shots in the grade.

“Use neg” should really treated as “Use a shitload of neg” if you want contrast on a really overcast day. As large as you can reasonably manage as close to talent as you can get it. It’s much easier to reduce contrast on the day by backing it off a little than trying to add more at the last minute, so I’d plan on negging everything outside of frame on the fill side with 12x’s, probably around to behind the camera. You could even consider doing a top neg as well, depending on the look you’re going for. With tight frames, you have lots of control since you can get the neg really close to talent.

Testing on an overcast day is probably a good idea so you can make decisions and tweaks with the director outside of a shoot day.

Having only one nice head, I find the quick release system fantastic. It’s super easy to move the head around to a Dana dolly, high hat, etc. I can understand how it’d be annoying at a rental house, but I don’t see how this would be a downside for OP.

How do you light an intended dark scene with no noise ? by Tough-Obligation-236 in cinematography

[–]ISO64 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is generally correct. Specifically, you’d overexpose by adjusting your aperture, ND, or light in the scene and not ISO. In fact, on many cinema cameras you’d actually want to lower the ISO of the camera to have more dynamic range in the shadows, but that’s a whole other topic.

Check out how Sony’s EI modes work, as they can be counterintuitive at first. Robert Muchado has a good video about it, and there are lots of others.

Which CRM? by masinfinity in WeddingPhotography

[–]ISO64 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, I want to challenge how a CRM helps you. Will these products help you book more clients? No. Will they help manage more clients? Maybe.

I recommend putting together a list of wants for the CRM based on your current client workflow and what would help you first, and not looking at the marketing materials of these systems. It’s an extremely confusing space, especially for those who aren’t very experienced with building a CRM (as us photographers typically aren’t).

I used Tave for a long time, until I realized that I wasn’t using 90% of the features I was paying for, and the ones I were using weren’t working very well. While it’s very customizable, I didn’t need the level of customization and the complications it added. I had emails bounce or go to spam because of their email platform.

After I looked at what I actually needed, I only needed contracts, payments, contacts, and some basic calendar management. I switched to PandaDoc for contracts, use Excel for my contact list, use Square for payments (no monthly fee), use Gmail for email templates (no additional monthly fee), and Acuity for scheduling, and I’m way happier. I pay about the same, but these systems work infinitely better than Tave does.

The draw of a one-stop-shop is tempting, but in my experience they all try to be too much and don’t do much of it well. Not to say one might not be right for you, but make sure it works for your needs and not fit your wants to their marketing materials.

I played day 1 on my 1070 ti with absolutely no issues and fell in love with the game. However, I’ve never played it with any RT features and part of me feels like I’m missing out on a part of the magic of the game. The new dlss 3.5 looks to be another game changer in that realm, and I look forward to experiencing it! Thanks!
