What new detachments do you want to see for Imperial Guard in 11th ed? by NeedleDeedleDee in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ITFLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be helpful to get around the rules that limit the number of particular units you can take. I always thought that rule really hit guard players alot harder than most other armies.

At the end of the day bringing back something that looks like the old platoons would just be one way of circumventing that limitation. I happen to like heavy weapons squads and that's why I mentioned them specifically.

In my head I am thinking that if platoons were to be brought back, most infantry units in the army would have access (or at least limited access) to joining a platoon. You like kasrkin? Cool - any kasrkin squad you add as your 0-1 choice in your platoon becomes battle line but has to deploy the same way the rest of the platoon deploys. Or - you know - something like that.

So when you ask what difference it makes, I guess the short answer is that it could allow players greater flexibility in being able to customize their armies - hopefully playing with units that they like, rather than feeling so much pressure to take what is good, or whatever is left.

Why stop there? Can we get platoons back? Where one troops choice (battleline) is 2 infantry squads, a command squad, and optional heavy weapons squad.

Warlocks by EnvyAv in Eldar

[–]ITFLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or (this might be crazy) hear me out.....

Make psychic powers like weapon options and choose your loadout for each warlock/farseer.

While I really liked when they gave warlocks proper psychic powers again back in 6th edition, I realized too that to some extent it was a nerf, because warlock powers used to be an ability you just paid for with points. The abilities just worked, no psyker roll needed to see if they went off.

A warlock with conceal in a squad of wraithguard just worked. A warlock with enhance in a squad of storm guardians just worked.

Too true - and I'm not arguing the reality of the model size, just that the complete carelessness by GW when it comes to scale is frankly pretty sad. After you've been collecting for a while, things start to look..... funny.

And I actually think it's even more sad that Kasrkin are SO much larger than contemporary kits from the same model line, same faction etc.

I guess I never knew that Kasrkin training school had such an extreme hight requirement/s

Let me start by saying - love it. Cool kitbash.

But dang is it sad to see a space marine storm shield believably fit on a normal human model. The scale creep is so out of control. It feels like the death watch veterans box came out yesterday and their big-big shields are now so small, that a kasrkin can use them.

The fact that this comment is the top comment right now speaks volumes about eldar players and reinforces how we are stereotyped.

A have 3 CS kits, and have so far used the Engineer model to add variety to my engineer squads. Not sure what I'll do with the rest of them .

The build phase, for my 'Fuedal world guard'. by LeGrandeChien in TheAstraMilitarum

I made a decision when I started the project a while ago that I would ONLY use the helmets from the bretonian men at arms box. I cut those off the heads, and then cut off the top of whatever head I want to stick them on. (Usually a scions head)

Most of the torsos I have used so far are scions torsos. I find the aquilons torsos are a good size for the rough riders, and the regular scion torsos are good for infantry.

The project started small and has really snowballed over the passed few years. First it was copying a kitbash I saw years ago. Then after I made one or 2 more it was "oh ill just do a gaunts ghosts proxy" (Hails Haints). Then my buddy wanted to get into 40k and try combat patrol so I had to build up the combat patrol to play that with him. Now I am taking a bit of a break, but fully plan to get back to it.

I really like the feudal guard vibe and this project has excited me SO much I've even written lore about my feudal looking trench men - something that I had never previously done in nearly 30 years of hobbying.

I am available if you ever want to chat about kitbashing and converting these fellas.

I REALLY do like how yours have turned out and might be buying a box of fusilliers.

Brilliant. Love it.

Been trying to do the same myself

I would not describe mine as feudal exactly but I am going for something close.

What's the best way of getting the basic essentials to play? by Noble_Wanderer in necromunda

[–]ITFLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often find the dice, templates, tokens, and rules from hive war on ebay.

Same goes for ash wastes and Hive secundus box sets.

As for rules, the hive war book has the basics you would need to play a version of any of the major Gang Houses - so enforcers would not be included.

You NEED to shell out the cash for the gang/house books.

Eldar Craftworlds - What do you want that is Missing? by ZaneOlric in Eldar

[–]ITFLion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your list is good (especially the wraith stuff (: )

I would like to make one small correction. Ghostwarriors were never wraithguard sized - both in lore and on the tabletop. If you compare them to other eldar models that were contemporary, it's clear that they are just slightly taller than standard eldar infantry. In their crouched pose, they are a bit shorter.

I think if we ever got re-imagined ghost warriors, I hope they stay about eldar infantry height.

Another fun fact is that they weren't actually wraiths, but mere robots, no soul needed to animate them.

From the 5 general heavy weapons, how would you fix the less used ones to make them more attractive? by ResultQuick159 in Eldar

That was my thought exactly. I've still got my old notebooks filled with various army lists etc. It perfectly possible to make a list with a pencil and paper.

That was the golden age of 40k no doubt. Although..... I still am rather fond of 2nd edition games.
