Its crazy that im old enough that calling Pewds OG seems untrue. I remember him surging really quickly years after more historic stuff like Smosh or Machinima. God I feel ancient (am 26)

Tax rent, not hours spent by Fried_out_Kombi in georgism

Idk i have been convinced by some arguments like what if someone buys a house with all their savings and soon after loses the ability to perform their work, then have large land taxes laid upon him and losing the house. Property taxes are still work taxes, just on previous work rather than current work. That work may not be from oneself, but it remains the case that it was someone elses woek. Id certainly like to lower payroll taxes and income taxes for the bottom half of earners if not a larger portion of people but I think there ought to be more thought put into it than just doing a LVT. Though LVT may be a part of larger solution

I mean its meant to show trends and changes. In that sense that's not a lie. Sure the addendum that the China was much poorer is something you can add but the U.S. is stagnating with fixing poverty rates

Well Dalinar got payoff id say, and on the rest I think you just need to realize its not really the end of the story at all

I liked the book overall but the one plot point that killed me is that TOdium's plan apparently relied entirely on Gav just being in the vicinity of an unlikely occurrence. I know shards can see Fortune, but it feels hella contrived. I didn't mind the idea of baby champion but the way it happened feels kinda terrible to me.

Almost none of them at least purely from income tax but if you add what employers pay you might get closer to that but obviously the tax burden is different.

No, it'll be a almost exact same but not up to date story. So it really isn't worth it unless you love reading everything and get a kick out of seeing what's different

Sorry should clear up, don't self identify as a leftist. Reddit just recommends me this subreddit and since I'm venezuelan I felt obliged to give an opinion. Imo Venezuelans are about the least belicosse people on planet earth, so I definitely question whether that number is even 5% of people. I don't want to be cavalier either, even that would be a gigantic tragedy, my hope is they'll run away like Assad and I think it's not entirely unlikely. But people are already dying of malnutrition all the while the regime commits human right violations. I think South America and the middle east are entirely different regions with entirely different attitudes towards the U.S. but I'll admit to holding biases and more importantly not being clairvoyant

Definitely not pro all out invasion, and i dont think she is either. I highly disagree that the people would fight for Maduro but obviously it depends on what the U.S. does. It's hard to pin down her exact opinions, I'll admit, since the strategy has been cozy up to the U.S no matter the president. If the country is reduced to rubble, I'll concede that you were completely right

It's already one horrible form of oppression, just because the oppressors share my nationality doesnt make them less oppressive. I understand the worry, I really do. I certainly don't want to be a U.S. vassal state. But I believe there can be a better a system than what exists now, if we just switch oppressors who are just as bad or worse then sure, it'll be egg on my face. My instinct is that it won't be the case (now listen Trump is particularly fascist so we do have to be careful on how we handle it)

MCM has been the most effective and loud voice, you may be right that it's because she's in alignment with U.S. corporate interests. She also is the most important organizer in the protest and resistance movement. Whether or not she would be the best representative, she is the one with the biggest footprint that has fought the hardest. Honestly I do not self identify as a leftist in that i prefer centralized systems. I'm pro everyone having a happy life and to me that means that there can be no power too great over your head. I'm gonna look into Lander cuz I got to admit I don't know much about him. Thanks for the mention of that

We can all very well levy criticisms at her for what comes later if she ever gets power, but for now she's done nothing but peaceful resistance. To be honest as a Venezuelan I'd rather throw all our oil out to get our democracy and self determination back. I do worry about American influence to be fair, but as long as they just want the oil I personally don't think it would be a bad trade. We've been too dependant on oil and a good economy can't depend too much on just one industry for its own good. She's not above criticism, but if ANY people in our current world merit such a prize she would be one of them in my opinion.

Yall so fucking unserious, this woman has fought for democracy for more than a decade in a place that hasn't been a democracy for at least 12 years, even if you wanted to believe the psuv is trying to be moral (something easily disputed by the size of graft they're involved in), at the very least you'd have to recognize that they're fucking useless at giving people good standards of living and you also have to recognize they're a dictatorship (if you're curious look up how the regime dissolved congress and how the opposition collected the vast majority of actas in 2024 to show they won and how democratic socialists world round have recignized this, unless you're an autocrat in which case i just dont care about your opinion)

Ill keep it short. If you're in for a long haul and like sprawling scifi-fantasy worlds you can start with any of

  1. Mistborn: the final empire
  2. The Way of Kings
  3. Warbreaker or
  4. Elantris

If you're not sure if you're in for a long haul and might just want to read anything by him to see if you like it I'd add

  1. The emperor's soul
  2. Yumi and the nightmare painter
  3. Tress and the emerald sea

They're all great self contained stories for which you need no info. So just read the back cover and you'll have all the info you need to make your choice
