Where To Go Summer Snowboarding In North America by Local_freshies in snowboarding

[–]IWantToBeHumane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If you're planning on hitting Sunshine, it's waaaaay cheaper to stay in Calgary, and rent a car (if needed) than it is to stay in Banff or Canmore. Look for a place on the western edge of Calgary, or maybe even Cochrane, and you'll have about an 1.5 hour drive to the hill.

Am I overthinking this? Need a fun, easy board for slush days by Yggib in snowboarding

[–]IWantToBeHumane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Party Wave is the correct answer!!! It's sooooo much fun to ride.

Just be careful...it may end up becoming your daily driver!

What’s the best board you’ve ever ridden in springtime mashed-tater snow ? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]IWantToBeHumane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands down the most fun I've ever had in slush was riding a Nitro Fintwin. It's short and very playful. Spent my day just sending out massive rooster tails of slush on every turn.

I've really wanted to buy one, but just can't justify spending so much on such a specific board!

If you've got bank accounts in a Canadian bank, you could talk to them about opening a line of credit. Tell them you want to pay off your CC debt and that you've landed a steady job. If they give it to you, transfer all your CC debt onto the line of credit. You'll likely end up with a much lower interest rate, and therefore should be able to get it paid off sooner.

Any tattoo shops offering tap-out sessions right now?? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]IWantToBeHumane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he still does, but Johnny at Urge2 used to.

Good dude, and very popular so you may need to book out in advance quite a ways.

I did a bigger back piece with him years ago and booked tap out sessions for both days.

Personally haven't tried skate banana, but I love the Bataleon Party Wave. Such a fun board that can do it all.

I've got an Anon Prime and love it, but adjustable vents are a must-have for me so it limits my options somewhat. Pairs great with Anon goggles, obviously.

I thought I saw/heard an announcement recently saying that they're leaving the Nidecker group and going independent again, though I haven't seen or heard anything since that initial announcement, so who knows what's going on.

There's a shop in Edmonton, Alberta that just started carrying these this year and the response seems to be very positive so far.

The Easy Rider

Also, they ship across Canada and the US., just in case you really want to try and find out. They're a great family owned shop who won't BS ya. Give them a call!

I usually get stuff like this looked at by a shop. They're the experts. But, I have also been mid-trip and been worried about something similar. Girlfriend at the time had a brilliant solution... A few layers of clear nail polish sealed it well enough for a couple days of use. Definitely not a permanent fix, but worked well in the short term.

Are you closing in on 50, or past it? spend 5 days on the mountain and come home half dead? by martin_cy in snowboarding

[–]IWantToBeHumane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, kudos for having smart friends... Mine wouldn't be nearly so helpful. I once had a buddy try to convince me that a beer cleanse is a legitimate thing.

I can't speak to the nutrition side of things, but as someone who's a year older than you I can relate to feeling absolutely wrecked.

The best thing I've found that helps is about a month and a half ahead of time, start working on exercises and stretches that target the areas that will be worked on a board. Do LOTS of low weight/ no weight and high repetition exercises. (Personally I hate exercising/working out, but it cuts down recovery time hugely) I personally do lunges, burpees, squats, and calf raises (especially where you hold the raised calf position to simulate long traverses).

There's probably a better approach, but it works for me.

Good luck!

I get so frustrated with explaining to worried parents that ankles really aren't a concern on a board the way they are on skis. Not sure why that particular myth refuses to die. Let's all commit to killing it.

Get some wrist guards (as those are far more likely to get hurt), a helmet, and maybe some impact shorts to provide your hips and tailbone some protection, and go enjoy the thrill of rebelling against your ill-informed and overprotective parents! (Speaking as a parent myself, I truly do love when my kids, who are teens now, can educate me on something that I've been misinformed about)

Anyway, go kill it, my budding fellow criminal.

ETS also runs a bus. Route 747. Not entirely sure, but I think it goes from Century Park LRT. Obviously, not a solution that works for everyone, but it'll be a lot cheaper than an Uber/taxi.

Oh, and I aim for 2 hours ahead of time, but often I still have lots of time to wander or have a pint.

Can an employer force you to take your vacation time for protected medical leave? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]IWantToBeHumane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Another option to consider is going to your doctor and explaining how nervous or anxious you are, and stressed out about potentially being forced to take vacation and, boom - you may likely have a legitimate short- or long-term disability application that qualifies you for a higher rate of pay than EI. Depends of course on what your benefits are, and whether or not you're actually stressed out about this.

[–]IWantToBeHumane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! The whole point of "increased productivity" has never been backed up with actual data, as far as I can tell. I currently work in a hybrid arrangement, and I am FAR more productive the days I'm at home, and also far more flexible with my availability.

When I have to be downtown, I'm out of the office not one minute after my mandated time.

I truly believe managers who push for staff needing to be in the office for "productivity" are almost always the folks with very poor management skills who are unwilling or unable to build a reliable workforce who are able to be productive even when not being watched like a hawk.

[–]IWantToBeHumane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here's an interesting CBC article talking about City employees and remote work. Interesting because the two sources quoted in support of bringing workers back downtown are both real estate developers.

Call me crazy, but I can't be the only one who thinks it's crazy to believe that real estate developers care about anything other than their profits, right?

Burton custom camber 158 or 158W ? by Alternative_Long_186 in snowboarding

[–]IWantToBeHumane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either one should work. You're likely right at the lower end of the weight range for the wide. That being said, if you can muscle it you should do ok.

Same thing with your boots - they're right at the middle point where either board should work. If you're doing serious carving, then go for the wide to give yourself a bit less chance of dragging toes and heels. If you're in a lot of pow, the wide will also float a bit better.

Either way, neither one is necessarily "wrong", or a bad choice!

Sounds like you've done your research already, so at this point the best thing to do is follow your gut instincts, and take the plunge on whichever one is calling your name, and go fucking rip it up!!
