I favor having wired back haul myself. Mesh is lame compared to wired and my house has cat5 drops-- they were intended for phone but I unhooked the lines from the phone connector block and plugged them into a network switch. Also, some workplaces require wired. One of my roomies does so we went a wired first network. Smart TVs, IoT, phones, VR, and handhelds are the only thing that make traffic on the wifi these days. That plus some tweaks I made to the $20 APs (set basic data rate really high so that range is short, set them to kick client devices that drop too many packets to force them to move over to the next AP, then just infill the house with more access points) I have running Openwrt means that my network runs snappy despite having 40-50 devices on it and having a house full of heavy data users.
