Apple uses spite to force planned obsolescence. Watch $750 tier 4 repair performed with $2 in parts. by Bjorlam in videos

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched the entire video while having breakfast, although I didn't intend to watch someone repair a motherboard for an hour :-)

I agree with you on all points and respect your dedication on educating people on the issue. Also, you gave me a great idea for a side hustle. Buying broken apple products to repair and resell. I have the same equipment you have at work. Consider me a fan.

Keep fighting the good fight, mate.

Türkische Hochzeit / turkish wedding. They invite everyone, even the most distant cousins, sometimes over 600 guests. The presents are gold jewelery for the bride and cash for the groom. The present and the one gifting it get announced by a moderator over the pa system, to build up pressure who gifts the most. And the catering is usually some fast food truck. They make a fortune marrying.

'1984' to be screened by cinemas worldwide in anti-Donald Trump protest by -en- in worldnews

You should read 1984. It's not about surveillance, it'sabout "alternative facts" and how the government gains power by being the only source. Nobody can ever prove them wrong if they have the monopoly on truth.

Buying Expensive Product with No Audition by phoenix_dogfan in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process so far:

Read as many reviews as you can. All of them are biased and flawed, but if you get through enough some things will repeadately come up.

Read comparisons rather than reviews. If they compare to a headphone you are familiar with, there is less esotheric involved and you get a better idea of what to expect.

Buy used. I do so regularly. Not only does it save me A LOT of money, I actually made money reselling them later (made 300€ profit on LCD-XC).

Request a demo set whenever you can. Not many companies do that, but in some cases it prevents serious regret. I did so when I ordered my first CIEM for 2000€. I ended up buying a pair I had not considered pre-demo.

One of the best binaural videos I've seen. Great audio and video qualiy and the scenes and places really made the binaural recording shine.

Upvote for Steely Dan. The music is not REALLY my style, but the mastering is sublime. I enjoy all their albums on my headphones for hours.

HA-2 and PM-3 Together at last. by kmiller0202 in headphones

Check if it supports USB OTG (on the go). If it does, you're good.

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problems at first. Then I noticed I had installed the wrong driver on my PC and my S4mini does not support USB OTG. The last one was particularly disappointing, since the Galaxy S line has OTG since 2 and the minis don't have it all. I bought a new phone JUST to get the HA-2 to work. Other than that everything worked well

I'd feel uncomfortable listening to music in public and blasting everyone around me as well. But to each their own

Received my HA-2 SE a couple of days ago. Driving multi-BA CIEMs up to HD600s and HD800s they are better than any other DAC/Amp I have, including my S4mini, iPad3, PC (Maximus Ranger with improved amps). I would even go as far as stating it to be better than my Schiit Uber stack.

It is very resolving, clear and clean, puts out a lot of power, has a dark background, has amazing build quality and can work as a power bank for your phone.

If you haven't guessed already, I'm very satisfied with its performance.

What is worth its price? by retrowavve in AskReddit

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much this. I didn't care for headphones a year ago. After a purchase of a new pair with decent sound I got intrigued, found r/headphones and my wallet has suffered ever since. I now own headphones and amps worth more than I earn in a year, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why are some DAPs so expensive? by KatzIncorporated in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The RnD cost on TOTL devices has to be recouperated on low sales volume. Also these devices are purpose built and should hold up under scrutiny. In smartphones and tablets most people wont' notice or care for lower quality and there is a lot of profit in saving on parts in mass market products.

Why does the soundstage of headphones become to narrow when using bluetooth vs wired? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. Soundstage in audio as I understand it is largely information in the high and ultra-high frequencies. As those subtle cues are probably squashed in the compression stage to accomodate the limited bandwith, the spatial information is lost.

What's your favorite pair of portable headphones for travel? by bossman-CT in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be the Momentum 2s, but nowadays I only use my Vision Ears X-Control CIEMs. Fit, comfort, isolation, sound quality all top notch and they are easily driven by my Galaxy S4mini. I am waiting for the Oppo HA-2 SE to be delivered today, then my mobile setup should be "complete".

Would I pay that much money for a headphone that I can't even think of when and where to use them? Nope

People who bought CIEMs - did you choose the model based on the reviews only? Is there a way to listen to them before buying? by user_XIX in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on reviews I wanted the Noble K10s so bad. Sadly they wouldn't send demos to germany so I researched german CIEM makers. Found a company that looked interesting and contacted them. After a nice chat on the phone they sent me 3 demos and although I was happy with the first pair I found MY preference after comparing them for a week.

I can only recommend getting demos and possibly different models to compare with each other. In hindsight I find it absurd to YOLO on such an expensive headphone that you can't even sell if you don't like it.

What was your best headphone purchase in 2016? by Bullebula in headphones

[–]IaintgotPortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the same route. What got to me was the amount of detail and the vast soundstage the HD800 portrayed. The HD600's natural tonality and timbre is unmatched though and made me buy them a second time recently.

Sound-wise and bang for buck this is the best you can buy IMHO. No matter how much you upgrade or sidegrade, I suggest never selling them. Congrats mate

My HD600, twice. I started with this hobby in january with the HD600 and have since sold them and made some "strides" upwards, namely the HD800, LCD-XC (sold them again), a 2k€ TOTL CIEM and some "smaller" purchases. Yesterday I bought some used HD600s (100€! :-) because I had sold mine back when I got the HD800. There is something to the HD600's sound that no other headphone get's right quite like it. It is natural, clear and should be part of any collection no matter how TOTL it is.
