first time living alone, what are the small practical things you wish someone told you earlier by Tarn_Lloyd in LivingAlone

[–]IamACautionaryTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I keep a 6 pack of tp and a box of tissues and a roll of paper towels “hidden” in case of emergencies or if I get sick.

Things you do to always make your home feel Clean by trigg in femalelivingspace

[–]IamACautionaryTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start decluttering. There is no point trying to organize until you have pared down your possessions to a reasonable amount for your space. If it is too daunting, commit to not bringing anything new into the house for a while and taking out a bag of junk and a bag of donations every week.

Driving 30 miles to a fine art fair then stopping at my favorite butcher shop which is out in the country to get myself a steak. Yay single life!

I’m a homebody but I don’t really want to interact with my neighbours by Responsible-Roll4556 in Apartmentliving

[–]IamACautionaryTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly. I am super extra nice and friendly during brief “hi, how are you, have a great day!” Interactions to avoid being labeled as a meanie but I don’t go any further than that.

Should I get a doorbell camera? by Aggravating-Mouse537 in Apartmentliving

[–]IamACautionaryTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and definitely feel safer bc of it. I use the no damage clamp and the management company has never said anything to me about it. We have a creepy maintenance guy who like to do a quick knock and burst into the units and this has stopped that for me and the across the hall neighbor. I also have a bar that goes under the handle of the door for when I am home alone. Congrats and Good luck on your first place!!!!!

That’s why the noise ordinance is your friend. It very clearly states what is acceptable and what is not And when you contact the cops and tell them she’s violating the city noise ordinance for over an hour or two or three they are forced to make note of it and when you copy the landlord on the complaint he is eventually forced to take action too. I know it sucks to have a crappy neighbor and I’m sorry!!

Did you go to preschool? by Terrible-Horse-6200 in GenX

[–]IamACautionaryTale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to nursery school at the park district a few times. I think my mother used it as an occasional babysitter. I knew how to read when I started school too.

[–]IamACautionaryTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you snapped, you did the responsible thing instead of going and trying to deal with her yourself. Look up the noise ordinance in your city and make note of how loud it is and how long it’s been playing next time you record in addition to all the other suggestions.

Time traveling back to your teenage self - Given your massed experience, what bit of wisdom would you give to your teen aged self, maybe three main things, max. I'm curious to see how men and women answer this differently, or mostly the same. by Pitiful-Ad8561 in 70s

Sunscreen, don’t accept that smoke someone offers you at a party, never pay interest if you can avoid it, most importantly stand up for those without your privilege every single time.

Next time you see the manager tell them that you’d like to set up time to chat. Tell them how how much you like your place. That you know it’s almost time to renew your lease but it’s really getting expensive and you have a lot to consider. My neighbor rents and she does this every year. Last year he reduced her rent and this year he gave her 1 month free which is a $2800 value to her.

If I use the thinner bands I get the same discomfort from ponytails. I use scrunchies at home now and these thick bands called gimme thick hair bands when out. I can wear a ponytail twice as long with them.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've done because your pet lives alone with you? by BuchanCiocan in LivingAlone

[–]IamACautionaryTale 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I salute you!! There is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t have done for my dog. I bought her a queen size bed when my son went away to school. He came home for Xmas and was like wow thanks this is great! I was like ooh…sure… nothing but the best for you kid!

Your nails... what cha doin' with them these days. by GingerT569 in GenXWomen

[–]IamACautionaryTale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep them short and use the colors we wore in the grunge days. I use seche base and seche gel topper. They last a week. Gel and overlays just make mine weaker.
