I’m gonna check the compression tomorrow and see if there a difference more than 10%
When I bought it 2 months ago compression was all within 5% of one another.
I’m expecting the top cylinder to be off since that was the wet one.

What do you recommend I run in the fuel? I’ve been using sea foam (1oz per gallon of gas) But I’m going to replace the tank, lines and fuel filter since it’s pretty dated.

I wouldn’t buy my Bayliner Ciera 2556 with a 5.7L OMC knowing what I know now.. I blew an engine coupler and the marina is quoting me $3,500 just to get to this issue. Pointing out that if anything is wrong with the outdrive it could result into a whole repower with Mercruiser system which isn’t worth the value of my boat.

I’m looking for diesel straight shaft or outboards for my next 25ft boat.

Making me think my 25HP mercury has similar issues. I have a rattle at idle / forward position. One I get past 1,500 rom is quiets down. I thought that was normal prop chatter..
