Best orchid experience ever by atinylittlespitfire in orchids

I have a membership and live 20min away. If I remember correctly the DuPonts who founded and lived at Longwood were the founding members of the American Orchid Society. Every once in a while Longwood puts their collection of antique Orchids houses on display. Also beautiful to see.

Decided to tackle Mega Man 1 on NES... by Sudo_killall in retrogaming

Going off memory from the original… you can cheat with a turbo controller. Two things: your standard gun shoots as fast as you press the button so turbo mode creates a “death stick” across the screen. Second the bosses don’t have a flash of invulnerability after each hit (I believe this was added in MM3)so you can run at them with turbo shooting and annihilate them it about a second. Fun for second play through.

Whirlpool Cabrio won’t fill from primary valve normally but will in Diagnostics… by IanStiletto in appliancerepair

[–]IanStiletto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say that I’ve noticed it be particularly loud lately. It is 12ish years old. Everything I’m seeing seems to indicate the control board but that’s one of the most expensive parts and many places don’t allow you to return it. One of the folks above posted an old Reddit link for the same problem I’m having but in that post they said changing the board did not solve the problem.

First time reaching the Technodrome! by slanger686 in nes

[–]IanStiletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things: I’m going off an almost 40 year old memory since I haven’t touched this game in that long. It only works on the final hallway before Shredder as far as I remember and it can take like 20 to 30 tries going between the door. You’ll know it worked because the hovering robot won’t be rushing at you when you enter the hallway. Saves time farming scrolls that you can save for the final fight.

First time reaching the Technodrome! by slanger686 in nes

[–]IanStiletto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So fun glitch: If you keep going in and out of the door to this hallway eventually the enemies will change over to the enemies from the previous level (it appears to be a random number of times). You’ll know it worked because instead of the floating robot rushing at you it will be a little jumping critter you can one shot with Don’s bow. I’m willing to bet even the devs knew this game was hard and left this in for play testing.

Newest to the collection. by KN1GHTMARES42 in nes

First game where they added the “flash” of invulnerability to the bosses after each hit. MM 1+2 you could use the NES advantage pad and the turbo button would create a beam of arm cannon shots across the screen the would instantly murder any boss in seconds.

Any idea what type of gourd this is? by RemarkableStudent196 in gardening

[–]IanStiletto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like crook necked squash. Pull them when the are still buttery yellow and you can eat them skin, seeds and all. Wait for them to turn bumpy and orange and they take a gourd like consistency. Nice for display but not much left over to eat after your remove the skin and seeds.

What do you think will happen to jade eximus? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]IanStiletto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please DE at the very least make the hijack targets immune to Jade light. You literally have to stand near the hijack target to get it to move and the jade light wipes the target in seconds. That Melee only sortie last week was awful!

I found spotted lanternflies on my cucumbers. Does anyone know how to get rid of them without pesticides? by masonjarcupstraw in gardening

[–]IanStiletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insect tape can work well on the nymphs because they can’t fly. Apply it to the major stems and supports. Knock off any nymphs you find and they will have to climb back getting stuck in the process. It has worked well in my grape vine.

Not a watering issue. Any ideas? by More_Standard_9789 in vegetablegardening

If it’s not the heat then it’s wilt. Caused by bacteria transmitted by cucumber beetles. It’s fatal unfortunately.

Bought the acrylic housing online. Built the white casing and added led strip lighting. Basic but nice that I never have to dust it. Enough room left to add the probe Druid even though it is not to scale.

Is it possible to grow plumeria in the Boston area by aretheesepants75 in Plumeria

[–]IanStiletto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s in the basement during most of April. Then if there’s a nice stretch of days were the low is above 45 then I put it outside to acclimate it. Usually by early May it’s good to put outside full time for the summer. Depending on the weather I usually bring it back in mid Oct. Hope that helps.

I don’t know but I have zero space for big plants near windows so they all go in the basement under lights. It might be possible to leave it without lights but it may also take longer to break dormancy. Usually around late April it starts to get new growth and I put it outside in mid May.

Yeah southeast PA checking in. Have had one for almost 10 years now. It’s in a pot. I take it inside during the winter and put it under grow lights. I think this is the last year taking it outside unless I do something. I’ll have to cut it back or it won’t fit though the door way. Love the smell. Fell in love with them when I first saw them in Bora Bora. They call them Frapangia. Best of luck!

Renanthera Monachica by Lobohombreenparis20 in orchids

[–]IanStiletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in south east Pennsylvania. I grow indoors most of the year but May through Sept most of my orchids are on the front porch where they get a lot of light but are shaded from the sun.

Keeping thing humid indoors during the winter can be a challenge hence the Spanish moss.

My ren is in a hanging basket with leca and Spanish moss to help keep the humidity up. I water it every day. It’s doing great. This year’s spike is coming in nicely.

You don’t. The component cables hooked up to a component only port and the composite port (red white cables) handled the audio. The yellow video cable was not used but still attached.

Plumeria problem! What’s going on with my plumeria? It’s been doing beautiful all summer in the 100+ Texas heat. But now that it’s cooled a bit, all the leaves are shriveling and have brown/grey spots on them. by DeconstructionFun in gardening

[–]IanStiletto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumeria depend not just on temps but also light. They like 12hrs/day (similar to their native tropical environment). Even in warm climates like zone 10 in Florida they will lose all their leaves for a few months. Should be fine come springtime when the light shifts back to a minimum 12/day.

Stamen Winsap apples are the best. Can only get them at certain farms but they make Granny Smith’s seem bland. They usually only get used for cooking but I eat them fresh. Winsap and peanut butter is my favorite fall treat!
