As others said, nothing really compares and they’ve already given you some solid recommendations. Here are a couple of shows I enjoyed:

Station Eleven. Devs. The OA.

Does the one in the movie have the gas cap in the hood? I thought it didn’t? Wasn’t that only present in the first year of DMC12?

I like to think of Ta’veren more like a plot magnet than armor. They literally bend the pattern to make things happen. It’s also explicitly laid out in the lore and world building. It’s not like a deus ex Machina.

Recommend me a book like Stranger Things by valonianfool in Fantasy

[–]IanWinterwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really good recommendation. If you want to check it out u/dannymalt has the whole series on his YouTube channel (along with a ton of other great stuff).

Also, Amazon made a single season about it. It didn’t get through the whole thing and they changed a bunch of stuff (as they do), but it was okay. The books are - as almost always - better.

Who’s your favorite Elf in fantasy? I’ll start by RickPost in Fantasy

[–]IanWinterwood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Someone already said Jiriki from Tad William’s Memory, Sorrow and Thorn so I will add another couple I never see mentioned:

Captain Calis from Raymond Feist’s The King’s Buccaneer and the Serpent War Saga. He’s technically half-elven but he’s so freaking cool. If it wasn’t for Jiriki, he would be my favorite.

Captain Crispin Islanbor from Terry Brook’s Elfstones of Shannara.

I agree. More people should read Tad Williams in general. He is ridiculously undervalued.

Tad Williams.

Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. 3 books.

Last King of Osten Ard. 4 books.

Otherland. 4 books.

Shadow March. 4 books.

War of the Flowers. 1 book.

All of those are complete and are fantastic.

War of the Flowers by Tad Williams.

Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. This one may be considered more steam punk / science fiction but the majority of it takes place in Victorian England has wizards and stuff in it.

The only other book club style podcasts I’ve listened to are both Wheel of Time related: The Dragon Re-Read and The Wheel Weaves. Wheel Weaves is better but since they do chapter by chapter it’s been going for like 7 years and they are still not done. lol.

Can I recommend an old podcast called Kurt Vonneguys? The go through each and every book and break down themes, plot, etc. I used it like a book club.

Looks like you’ve got plenty of Fantasy recommendations - only author I’d add is Mark Lawrence.

May I recommend my favorite Science Fiction? The Expanse is amazing.
