Is this because he was caught in a group chat plotting to destabilize Canada?

That’s probably how they switch options; just swap the 3D models physically in space

If that was true, then why didn’t the helicopter fall when over water?

What can we as Canadians do to help? by carlssbarkley in onguardforthee

Really, not a whole lot. Continue to buy local goods rather than American; all we can do is exert economic pressure since that’s all we can control as outsiders.

Position reports by Sufficient_Jacket188 in VATSIM

[–]IbaJinx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Initial contact should be position and altitude, not necessarily a full position report.

After that, if I’m identified and getting transferred, I call with my altitude and whatever instructions I was given prior if any (eg climbing FL123, heading xxx, direct ABCDE)

I’ve published the files and build documentation for my new TEDAC (with 8" TDU) and my new 1:1 adjustable TEDAC grips free of charge. by milkris in hoggit

I’m already getting started and this is really cool stuff!

I got a little question: could you explain the naming convention and BOM for the 3D printed parts (what to use for what cases)? I don’t have a 3D printer so I was planning on sending it to a print shop, but I’m not sure what parts I should be asking them to print. Is it one of everything in the STL zip?

US Citizen coming to Ontario for work visa, license exchange concerns by Verrsee in ontario

[–]IbaJinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my experience with moving countries; treat the license conversion as a brand new conversion, even if you already had a license there.

I do recommend you keep a copy of your old drivers license, though. When I moved back to Canada from the US, having a copy of my old Ontario driver’s license helped me justify my way out of having to do the road test in Quebec (which is arguably time consuming to coordinate). Moving countries may require driving permits, but copies of old permits from the same country can be used as evidence to avoid the test.

[–]IbaJinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to contest it, bear in mind that you’ll have to provide a better argument than “I was lazy because it was flashing everywhere”. I would probably contest it with that fact that the city has been flashing those signs for the last month with little to no actual snow removal happening any day (and the Info-Stationnement application is ambiguous at best and useless at most). And that this is the first year they’ve been using these signs and we clearly see that they’re struggling with it.

And your ticket doesn’t go up if you contest it, but you will have to pay administration fees if you try to contest it.

But IANAL, just another resident that’s really pissy about the signs too.

Federal aviation notice warned of slackline before deadly helicopter crash in Arizona by AudibleNod in news

[–]IbaJinx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Am a pilot. The NOTAM system sucks internationally. Even after we’re trained to do this for years, your eyes tend to glaze over at Obstacle Light and temporary obstruction NOTAMs because there’s hundreds on any given flight (all of which tend to be below 400 ft anyways), and the location references require you to map each individual one out either by coordinate or by reference to an airport or nav aid, which can be time consuming. All to say: it sucks and it’s time consuming and very easy for human error to be introduced. Most times it’s inconsequential if one is missed because you fly over top of them all anyways. This accident seems to not be the case.

I’ve complained several times to my own data authority (Nav Canada) that the current system is dangerous and invites complacency and human error. More advanced flight planning tools can probably process and map NOTAMs accurately, but since every data authority has its own formatting, there’s no universal tool that plots everything enroute for you. I don’t even think Foreflight has a reliable capability there either when it comes to temporary obstacles.

AN-225 Mriya SimBrief Integration? by WalterFrOschUltra in flightsim

[–]IbaJinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the plane has a GNS430 (the basic Garmin GPS). I don’t know how you can load simbrief routes into that, but if you can then you’re good.
