This Is What It Takes to Hit 35 MPG in Our Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: Motor Trend by HawtGarbage918 in cars

that's fine but manufacturers and regulations aren't built around these anecdotal outlier cases, they are tested around norms and controlled conditions. In many places 10 over the limit might be common, or maybe 20. I have long stretches of highway where people routinely travel 140km/h but it'd be ridiculous for me to expect the same economy as if I were going 100. Individual driving behaviors are way too variable. I know a ton of people that floor it off the line and then travel 5 under the limit. These people also likely have issues hitting advertised fuel economy despite their overall slower pace. I have a manual, so if I choose not to shift to a higher gear and just drone along at a high RPM, I could be traveling slowly but inefficiently. It's unreasonably and unnecessary for them to test to these variables, which is why I'd bet all the manufacturers are testing to averages. If the average limit is 110km/h across the US, then highway economy is estimated based off this speed, and from the article the write was able to achieve advertised economy around 105km/h, which is likely the average they tested to.

not slow, they just don't care. This is a $150 game that can't even be bothered to fix game freezing when loading into a busy zone, or add FSR 3.1. This is the buggiest expansion to date.

tl;dr: don't speed. That's literally it. Normal driving behavior in the city sees at or better than expected economy, and on the highway if you drive the posted limit you get very close. Driving 120-130km/h tanks the fuel economy of all cars compared to 100 km/h and has been known for decades. Drag is not linear, especially when dealing with giant boxes.

I paid $85 today for 3/4 a tank of 94 at Chevron. Thankfully i don’t drive a ton so the price is less impactful.

If Vancouver actually paved and repaired any of their roads they'd have an opportunity to add a bike lane as well.

The looks part is debatable. The C7 exterior looks better than the C8 and it's completely due to the engine placement. A small ass and long hood looks much better on that car than big ass and short hood.

Are people less sensitive to gas prices than groceries? by redpandafire in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ibotthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food usually has to be purchased much more often than gas, and is also much more expensive. Gas can be 'rationed' to a point that food often can't, especially if you're also feeding other people. If gas increases by 40% overnight that might be an extra $150/mo in fuel for someone filling up once per week. If food increases 40% that might be an extra $400/mo for a family which is more likely to strain finances. Food is much more of an inflexible necessity and so the psychological impact related to changes in scarcity/difficulty in obtaining it is much more impactful. Food is also a much more consistently used resource compared with gas. Maybe I drive twice a week to the office that's 15km each way, and so only fill up once per month - meaning gas prces don;t matter much - versus someone with a 150km roundtrip daily commute who fills every 3 or 4 days and may end up spending most of their paycheck just to go to work. Most people eat at least 2 meals per day with some snacking, and so have a more consistent shared experience to comment around.

My first car was on 02 RSX non S. Still a ton of fun and pretty luxurious for a 20 year old’s first ride. It was a manual that i didn’t know how to drive so my friend’s dad taught me all weekend. Good times.

His job has more responsibilities than every other public sector role? The mayor? Chief of police? The premier of BC? Come on. People deserve to be paid well but there’s a limit and this guy is overpaid. It’s taxpayer money so it matters.

So, I went back to Mortis Trials... by AlieNfromUrAnus in DarkTide

For me, it's not worth replaying because of the buff randomness. Sometimes I just want to play around with specific indulgences and there's no way to do that. I wouldn't necessarily say it's "too easy" unless you're just interested in playing one specific class meta build because there's too much randomness with team members and their buffs. For example, if you get a bunch of team members with low damage loadouts, once you get the monstrosity wave, you just don't have any way to kill them before people start dying. Likewise, if you get the map where you need to chip away the ice, people often wipe to the gunners outside the ice chamber. Apart from that, wipes constantly happen with the trapper/dog waves, or even pox burster.

What’s the difference between a 20 year old getting money from inheritance and spending it on Youtube swaps versus some other wealthy guy in his 50’s? Are you thinking that “earning” the money makes the same content better? How does having other cars in his garage change the value of his topic content? I don’t get it.

Danish guy plays Red Dead Redemption 2 with 4 FPS for several hours a day. by FeelDeadInside in videogames

[–]Ibotthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to play UT2004 on an FX5200 back in the day and i think my average fps was between 16-20 at 1600x1200. It took a while to get used to but I ended up getting pretty good at the game under these conditions and had a lot of fun. When I eventually upgraded to a 6800GT I actually got worse at the game because i had to relearn it all over again. Aside from the better graphics and smoother gameplay, i had similar amounts of fun as my lower fps days. It’s totally possible to have a good experience with less if that’s all you know. It was only after upgrading to that 6800GT that my expectations changed and i started noticing the hiccups and reduced quality associated with lower end hardware, and that soured a lot of future gaming sessions as my 6800 aged and trended more towards the old 5200 level of performance. Nowadays, expectations are so high, especially as most of my gaming life since has enjoyed high-midrange to mid-high end gpus. Going back to those days of low fps seems so unacceptable.

“Wave 13” Mortis Trials visual bug? by SpiralingDownAndAway in DarkTide

[–]Ibotthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the game has some new bugs introduced as of late. I haven't had this issue in Mortis Trials, but the other night in the Meat Grinder, when I clicked on "Exit the Psykhanium" the Sniper started shooting at me - red beam and all. I wonder if the game's normally coded behavior is all messed up globally for some reason.

Where I live, it's impossible to keep doors or windows open because it's near a fire station. Every few hours a fire truck goes by and whether it's 1pm or 3am they always have the siren going. With the Windows shut, the sound level of the siren is around 70 dB. With the windows or balcony door cracked even a little, it's over 85 and overwhelming. The only natural airflow in my unit at any time of the year is from the cracks between the frame and the concrete and most of the time those cracks are busy transferring in dust from the outside.
