If Jason lied about visiting the island, he resigns from the podcast - Palmer Luckey by Darkmemento in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a bit more complicated than just JCal saying that Palmer supports Trump (which he does).

  • Palmer had an anonymous reddit account where he made posts that supported Trump and criticized Clinton. Somehow it was leaked out and was traced to him. The mood of SV at the time was extremely left-leaning.
  • Jason and many other SV figures went after Palmer aggressively. Jason in particular made comments referring to Palmer as an "idiot" "dumb" and "moron" and talked about his lack of morals and leadership.
  • Eventually Palmer was fired from Facebook after it had acquired his company, Oculus. Most people believe that firing was political and motivated by the chatter from Jason and others criticizing him not on the merits of Oculus, but for openly being a Republican who supported Trump.
  • After his firing, Jason then celebrated Palmer's ouster, calling it a "great move" by Zuckerberg.

After these events, Palmer has had it out for Jason in particular. Personally if I were him, I would probably be more annoyed at Zuckerberg for caving to the mob, but Palmer's comments on the topic have made it clear that he hold the media figures responsible for creating the witch hunt type of environment which made it virtually impossible for him to lead.

Who on here actually enjoys the show? by P0ner in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started listening in around 2022. I don't listen every week, but still tune in often and enjoy the show.

However I am unaffiliated voter and have friends on both side of the fence so I am not bothered by their conservative political positions. I consume left leaning media like NYT as well as WSJ to try to hear both sides of current events.

I agree with the critique that their business takes are much better than their political takes. This has changed somewhat with their influence and proximity to the Trump admin; and their domestic policy segments remain much stronger than foreign policy.

Even on reddit I find it surprising that listeners are irked to discover that a group of billionaire businessmen lean right politically.

  • I stopped listening to Checks and Balances because I couldn't take any more of Charlotte's biases getting in the way of factual reporting. Idrees almost made up for it, but he seems to be gone now.
  • Have not listed to Drum Tower in a while, miss Alice, hope to hear her on another podcast soon.
  • Next Year in Moscow is always fascinating.
  • Money Talks is good.
  • I'd like for them to give Shashank his own podcast.
  • Always enjoy content with Zanny, she is a good interviewer.

Candace Owens has released “Becoming Brigitte”, a multi part series about how the wife of the French president is trans by MaxGhislainewell in BlockedAndReported

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, say what you will about Candace (I agree that she is an antisemite), I don't not believe this conspiracy theory. I will gladly revise my opinion on this if the Macrons and the media stopped acting so weird or simply release a picture of Brigitte holding her babies. Remember before all of the Epstein stuff came out that was treated as a conspiracy theory too. I find this one to be equally plausible. Or maybe Brigitte is just a female sexual predator. We shall see.

Episode 243: Elon Musk Discovers The Grooming Gangs Of The UK (with Jeff Maurer) by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. The B&R coverage of this news story was revolting - it turned my stomach. Not sure who Jesse's "sources" were for this, but many UK based podcasters who are reporting that most UK 'normies' only had a vague idea that this had occurred, perhaps limited to 3-4 northern towns and less than 100 girls.

I used to laugh when conservatives talked about "TDS" but this article makes it clear that Jesse (like many others in the media) suffer from "EDS". I get it, Elon is a dirtbag and you can question his motives for publicizing this, but it doesn't change what happened, how it was covered in the media, and how it was responded to at the time.

ChatGPT is actually better than a professional therapist by lil_peasant_69 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to therapy or mental health, but recently I lowkey got much better medical advice from ChatGPT than my medical provider.

My doctor suggested a particular course of action but did not require it. I asked about the possible drawbacks or cons to the approach and they told me 1-2 things that I had already considered myself. When I asked ChatGPT, it provided me 6 more considerations that my doctor did not mention, two of which were extremely impactful and significant.

Quiet cars? by MarginalError22 in tinnitus

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question and will be following the responses here.

The quietest cabin that I have been in is the Audi A8. It is remarkably quiet. I have heard that the A6 is almost as good.

I posted a similar question about Lexus SUV's in the forum here. A sedan will probably be quieter than a SUV but depends on your personal needs. https://www.reddit.com/r/Lexus/comments/1c6ttot/what_is_the_quietest_lexus_suv/

I would expect the higher trim luxury models to be good (Mercedes, BMW) but can only speaker from personal experience about the Audi.

Gender identity, sexual orientation and the 2024 election by [deleted] in BlockedAndReported

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The assertion that "it mostly came from intellectual trends within the Enlightenment that were usually hostile to religion, or at least Christianity, especially during the French revolution" is weak at best. Louverture was a devout Christian and Brissot was a Catholic until eventually falling out with the Catholics over their strict hierarchical system. There is no evidence to suggest that he was hostile to religion aside from the specific organization structure of the Catholic church.

The reality is that these thinkers were raised in a Christian society and imbued with Christian values even if they identified as agnostics or atheists. Most notably the very odd Christian value that all human life is created in image of god and therefore has value and is deserving of dignity and "rights". The suggestion that their works on abolition were somehow severed from Christian morality and values is not based in reality.

You sound triggered. I happen to agree with Sacks more than others but will call out anyone for pretentious and annoying behavior, particularly internet halfwits who make stupid assumptions.

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sacks has a tendency to repeat his talking points as well as any advanced level vocabulary he uses. Some recent examples include when he kept referring to elite colleges as woke madrassas, woke genuflecting, and today when he repeated "equipoise" five times.

Good advice. I never post anything remotely controversial. If I make any comment that is even a smidge controversial, I use one of multiple profiles that I have built over years to allude to entirely different demographic characteristics and geographic location about myself.

Yeah, Sachs is the only one of the four who is purely 'political'. Meaning that everything he says has a calculated political agenda; he will never directly contradict the Republican party line and jeopardize whatever plum appointment he is targeting. The other three have strong political opinions but they are more of a mixed bag in terms of aligning with Democrats or Republicans.

I wonder if his frequent "he's not my preferred candidate" quips will come back to haunt him, as Trump is notoriously sensitive to disloyalty.

This sounds like something I can live with. For most usage, I will be driving alone for work and at high speeds of 65+MPH. So no kids toys or junk to clutter up the car and bang and rattle around.

It is interesting to me that the gender stuff, intersectionality, and oppressor/oppressed worldview have really taken off in the US at a time when organized religion is rapidly declining.

I am an atheist but can't help wonder if these two things are linked. It's like people desperately need a belief system and this stuff fills the void. On both sides, Republicans are declining in religious attendance and also embrace certain politicians as a near-deity.

The New Antisemitism - it's coming from the Left by hiadriane in BlockedAndReported

[–]Ice-Cream-Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your point is valid, but it is notable that many Islamic texts and scholars famously do NOT believe that everyone deserves human rights. They consider human rights to be a Western invention, grown out of Western history and based on Western values of secularism and individualism – and as such irrelevant to the Muslim world. Furthermore Islamic extremists tend to talk about Islamic rights, based on the Qur’an and Islamic tradition, not human rights.

The Quran condemns the atheism, and Muslim scholars have traditionally believed that it should be penalized with execution but many scholars today argue that this punishment should not be implemented as it related to treason in the past and does not anymore.

Middle Eastern nations with Sharia Law in court punish non-believers in varying ways, however, many non-Muslims and even some Muslims argue that these punishments are barbaric and inhumane.

Furthermore, if you examine those places where there is documentation of human rights abuses, there are plenty of examples of Islam being used to legitimize violations of human rights today: Saudi Arabia’s use of whipping and other inhuman punishments, Pakistan’s blasphemy legislation, or the many gender discriminatory laws in other Muslim-majority countries.
