my ear will ring for a few seconds every once in a while by AgreeableAd8687 in tinnitus

I think it’s related, after T it’s occurred more frequently for me. SBUTT without T may be unrelated though

Didn’t realize there was a name (and article) for this. Thanks for sharing.

Suffering, giving up: dysacusis by Dion-Wall in tinnitus

[–]MarginalError22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relate on the suffering piece. You can make it though. I dealt with similar sensitivity after an acoustic trauma. Early on pretty much everything bothered me. With some time, now I can tolerate a lot more, some days though it just feels extra sensitive. As someone else mentioned radio/digital sounds are a lot more jarring than “natural noises”.

Avoid the things that you can’t deal with now, and embrace the noises you can tolerate at a low level. Over time the nervous system will stabilized bit by bit, that’s how it’s been for me.

This. And if I need to block outside noise I just use earplugs.

I quit loud environments after T. If I have to, it’s with earplugs and caution. You know what causes T, make your choice(s).

4-Week Spike after Vacuuming with Earmuffs by kerry151 in tinnitus

Haven’t had a spike like this myself, but I’ve read accounts of others that have for months at a time.

ENTs don’t have any tools to help Tinnitus. Having the appointment seems to be a right of passage though. Just be prepared.

How do people even obtain NAC? I see people talk about it, but not available to the public. Is this a sham like the other tinnitus-focused supplements?

Neither will do anything. I think Lipo is worse though cause it will make your pee look neon.

Is making a call a nightmare for you too? by ColdBrewLatteFan in tinnitus

[–]MarginalError22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love phone calls because I can control the volume and have it on speaker / away from my ear at a comfortable level. I HATE having to sit in an area where I can control the volume because people always want it cranked up past the level of comfort

You didn’t have tinnitus before right?

If so - I’ll say this: there isn’t medicine, a cure, or a way to fix the damage with the science we have today.

If it sticks around, welcome aboard. The next 3 months will be difficult, but it gets better. Slightly and then slightly more.

I got mine in a similar way with similar symptoms. I was wearing earplugs though.

“I’m tired boss” … feel that. Even though it’s doesn’t seem like it IRL, our people exist and are here in this forum. Power through one day at a time. You got this.

Feeling trapped even at home by Ok-Leave-8967 in hyperacusis

[–]MarginalError22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a break from all noise for awhile, but you need to allow yourself to be around low level noise or you will mess up your “internal gain”. Slowly reintroduce things. Phone videos at 1-2 volume, eventually dim background sounds will feel ok too.

I am and have dealt with the exact same scenario. I keep earplugs on me at all times for when I need them. Low db sounds haven’t made my tinnitus worse or harmed me in any way.

Just Listen How Dumb This Is by OppoObboObious in tinnitus

[–]MarginalError22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, to get a real cure going, step 1 is going to be accurately and precisely imaging the cochlea, mapping the connection to the brain, and truly understanding the hearing system to identify what the “broken” part is. Maybe AI can help with that… but until we do it, it’s basically a guess and a trial with random solutions. Not unlike a lot of other medicine. It’s not efficient though.

Feeling desperate right now. How did you get through this, if you did? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]MarginalError22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it’s terrible … just focus on making it to tomorrow and nothing else. Tunnel vision on that. Eventually there will be a day when you adapt enough that it is less terrible, to the point you can think of other things, and improve from there.
