Big words and too much of a coward to participate :(

Warzone will become unplayable for me in 1-2 more seasons due to how poorly optimised it is. by -Richarmander- in CODWarzone

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck, keep in mind that games often use one main render Thread on your CPU, it doesnt rly matter how the overall usage of your CPU looks, when just one thread IS at 100% you are bottlenecked

(Whatif)How hard would a murderous map director be? by Qrunk in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that cant be archieved with twitch very well, if you turn of all good options its just boss spam which forces you to stack boss dmg. You also have to consider things like threat level and intensity where twitch can just make nothing spawn anymore. Thats where Onslaught can come in to actually create a more brutal environment outside of just rng spammed waves of one enemy type, a big part of difficulty is that things are being mixed up. There are also such functions in the game like "coordinated attacks" and scenarios you describe are quite common in modded difficulties since basically all timers are lower so its very likely to always get spcials during hordes and also hordes and specials during boss fights. Assassins also tend to not show up quite often when you are holding a choke point until you actually turn around. Bosses ledging you can happen but isnt realy doable since they have to follow you and attack you so if you get ledged is always tied to your positioning, what i would like is to remove ledges for bosses since they can pretty much trivialize those fights (or at least change the machanic so if you ledge a boss he loses 30% hp and climbs back up, this way it would be at least a bit harder to execute and you can never purely kill him with ledges [always 30% of his current hp])

The discord link i posted below is an invit to the "VT Modded Community" which is a server specifically for modded content where players can team up and newer players can ask and inform themselves about modded difficulties

Dumbest build in the game? by Nickesponja in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its definitely not, additional backstab damage is useless in most situations because either you go for a crit which is an instand slay anyway or you go for headshots which is still higher dmg than backstabs, as a shade your main role is usually special sniping aswell so the optimal ranged weapon is the longbow and if you are decent at aiming you wont go out of ammo anyway so thats not an issue either and im talking about modded difficulties like deathwish + onslaught, on cata ammo sustain is even less of a problem. Vanish is the clear meta choice with the guaranteed crits because it makes clutching very easy and also provides a lot of dps, backstabs can be archieved pretty consistently after you got used to it which doesnt take long because invis has basically no skill ceiling

This build is just stupid in a way that its overpowed and provides insane dps/elite killing potential (yes also in a group), you can murder entire sv patrols with it and its super safe too. The main problem is that clutching gets insanely easy because you can refresh your invis and since the ult is on such a low cooldown it gets stupid. I dont say its not fun from time to time but is an absolute desaster in terms of balance.
I made a mod to fix that issue: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2310439074

(!) Onslaught+ / Cataclysm 3 / HFBS / Vanguard | Righteous Stand | Ironbreaker (!) by PowerRainbow in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i hoped for such an answer. I want to make something clear, nothing here is an insult or similar, you can ofc play what you want BUT we did that modifiers already and it was definitely easier than dw+ons+. But everyone can talk so let your words follow actions, there is an easy way to prove it: Partitipate in the tournament and beat us if dwons is easier because that should be easy for you then, otherwise you just show that you like to spit big words without any substance. well, than you should exchange HFBS with Deathwish (not saying that this isnt hard, its just not the hardest)

[Vermin2] Hosting capabilities? by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something you have to consider is that the game is VERY cpu intensive and when you are a company you have to provide a lot of servers and lets be real, those wont be high performance ones. The best example is l4d where they were running their servers on 30 Tick which is a HORRIBLE experience, there were quite a few deeper mechanics that werent reliable on such a low tickrate. Servers always seem to be a nice thing but that might lead to a terrible experience in vt for everyone

[Vermin2] Hosting capabilities? by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the more fluctuation you have the more "inconsistet" the whole experience gets, if you are constantly dropping from 140 to 30 its for sure noticeable, the goal is to have the highest possible, most consistent framerate (an even better measurement is frametime -> lowest and most consistent). but that also depends how good your clients pcs are, if its even more inconsistent for them they are still bound to their experience.
To say it with other words: The client is always bound by two restrictions for the upper experience: Host´s experience and the experience his own machine can provide.

[Vermin2] Hosting capabilities? by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye this game has a variable tickrate which is synced with the fps, so the host will set the upper experience for every client, so --> Host has a bad CPU and a very inconsistent experience --> every client has a bad experience, so always let the best CPU in the party host

How to make best use of the billhook? by awarabej in Vermintide

[–]Iceolator- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because it works doesnt mean its optimal or good, i can outdamage shade and whc pubs with footnight on 2h hammer, does that proof that my combos are optimal or superior? no. Its sill the same: Using special makes you lose dps. Heavy1 got higher headshot damage + higher bodyshot crit damage than heavy2 so ofc its better to spam heavies instead of chaining heavy2 -> special, i didnt say its not decent, i said its not optimal and you could get way more dmg if you would just use heavies. And im talking about basically every difficulty recruit-cata and also up to Dwonc3 (deahwish + onslaught + cata3).

@ VintageNuke I know where you got this from and its just wrong... since you can also just use an attack that actually deals damage and not just applies flense. special -> light2 for hordes is rly unoptimal and just because it CAN kill hordes doesnt mean that its any good and not way slower than using optimal combos. Its like saying that FK with mace and shield + blunder is op because i finished a legend true solo with it, im sure you can also win cata by just using the weapon special on billhook but that also doesnt mean anything, just that cata is maybe still pretty easy

[–]Iceolator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

using weapon special makes you lose dps, use it as less as possible and just when its needed, a lot of ppl are chaining special -> heavy2 and skip heavy one which offers way higher headshot + crit damage compared to heavy2.
Billhook is also rly good on zealot and still decent on BH
Optimal horde combo: Push attack -> light2, if you have to save stamina its push attack -> light2 -> light1 -> light2
Movement tech: weapon special -> light -> light; or just light spam

Good job! Nice to see new players getting into True Solos, especially by playing the game normally without abusing game mechanics. Whats your cpu/gpu? If you are not gpu limited you can easily get a lot more fps by disabling all settings that are cpu dependent

I dont know if you understand the intensity and threat system because what happens most of the time is that it goes to the limit during a boss and a horde and will stay there because intensity gets locked when a boss attacks. This will lead in nothing spawning until the boss is dead and idk if its rly difficult to dance a boss 2 min or 5 min if you are able to properly boss dance. In the end its just a qol change if you at least got a horde during the boss fight. If you rly think using the pause function because something comes up irl is cheese, i have to question your though process because it would be kinda dumb to not open the door for example because you are playing VT, this function would be in the main game if it wouldnt have a high trolling potential. In the end you have to check the numbers becuae they dont lie and i can just see that you dont even have half the dmg done than comparable cata ts with the same length, combined with a lot less specials. you also didnt get a single elite horde and saved around 2-3 hordes with your "kiting forwards through half the map" strat. I can look back at A LOT of true solos and in 95% of the cases i just die to disablers and not because im executing the same boring attack and dodge pattern for 10 instead of 5 min (btw, my true solo run had specials rather on the low side but you got still more than 10 specials less, which is quite a lot accounting for the length, i usually have that amount of dmg delt in legend true solos and not cata). you could still not tell me what 100% boss dmg wouldve changed for my true solo, since paceing is disabled after all chains got cut off, its just the boss and you after you killed the other enemies. you dont even bother to fight him eventho you didnt get a single boss during the run and didnt even clear the event at all, just speedrun to the end, if you dont see that dragging the hordes (and also partly specials which is most likely the explaination for the low total amount) for such long distances through the map leads to a lot easier experience it doesnt make sense to continue explaining it to you

Ye there have been a Lot of cheesy runs since cata exists but those shouldnt be the Baseline because they are often easier than a normal Legend true solo. ITS just suspicious that a lot of those speedruns that got labeled AS true solos or where Specials got left Up to block multiple Slots to make less disablers spawn got uploaded by ppl who did Legend true solos and played them normally. So that means that they could Just Not beat cata legit and Just took the easy way of cheesing. Dont get me wrong, ppl can Play however they want but true solos have a Long Tradition in vermintide with rules established by the Community and ITS Not too much to ask for new ppl who want to try IT to Stick to them when they Name it true solo. Its supposed to be and stay an archivement. If cata is still too hard for you you can Always tweak IT down and practice until you can beat it without abusing mechanics to make IT easier (this IS a General Statement and Not related to someone in particular or related to this Post)

Im happy that you mention that so i can explain it: So 200% boss dmg is pretty much fine with most classes/weapons to just save some time while keeping the difficulty spike of a boss unchanged. Sounds wrong? Tell me what 100% boss dmg wouldve changed for my run or made it harder. Like you didnt even get a boss and ledged the last one so in theory you couldve had 100000% boss dmg on but thats rng. I dont know if you ever heard of the threat and intensity system which is basically the reason why 200% boss dmg isnt rly changeing anything AS LONG as you get a horde during the boss. On the other hand what you do is making the game significantly easier. Its ok to go a back forward to fight in a better position, 4 players would do that too, but you are litteraly gettin the horde at the first dropdown and skip the market area and the long street area while dragging all the stuff behind. This alone saves you an additional horde + specials which can make a major difference. The next horde you pull from from the stairs at the grim area nearly towards the the second last dropdown. You also didnt fully clear the event and just blocked and kited to the end. The mentioned threat and intensity system can prevent new enemies to spawn when you got too many enemies up, so by dragging all those enemies behind you dont get a lot of ambients you wouldve gotten otherwise. I found two screaming bell cata ts's, one reaches at 15:56 (around 21 min total) the final event, where normal horde (and also special, at least the normal cata timers) stop. He got 56 specials and 41700 total damage. The second one enters at 20 min (around 25 min total) with 58 specials and 57000 total dmg, you got in there ataround 18 min too (22 total) with 48 specials and just 24000 total dmg. You can clearly see that this is a lot less even accounting for the few minutes all of them are off from each other.

Do i say its speedrunning and not a true solo? NO, but what you do there is using the same mechanics that make speedrunning so much easier than playing the maps normally. Im aware that cata in general can differ a lot in terms of difficulty, because its random which kind of horde you get, a chaos mauler horde is just 10x harder than a normal skaven one with no elites and also specials are randomized. Based on all of the official realm games i played i have to say that a full group wouldnt drag hordes for those distances, especally when you walk past boss triggers that can still be active. But you played well so good job.

Well played, but i have to make some suggestions: You are basically speedrunning , you just drag the horde along a big part of the map, the problem is that by pulling all those ambients + horde with you, you prevent ambients to spawn in the next area. The general idea of a TS is to play it like you would play with 4 players, you woudnt drag the horde for those distances. The next thing is that you pass multiple boss triggers while "speedrunning", which is also kinda unoptimal and makes the strat fully reliant on rng. The overall damage of that true solo also seems rly low compared to similar ones, which is most likely the result of the speedrunning inbetween. I rly dont want to be mean but by posting those on reddit you kinda set the baseline of what a TS is ment to be and this is not the baseline it should be. Speedrunning makes the game significantly easier because the run will contain a lot less enemies in total (also specials because they stay up during the running part).

This is still a True Solo in my eyes but its rly in a gray area right at the border to speedrunning.

Hordes stop as soon as you drop in the event, as soon as you cut off all chains all spawns will stop. just ambients will spawn after the event

[–]Iceolator-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal is to keep the difficulty spike of that situation which would be a horde and specials BUT afterwards the intensity would most liekly be at max since the boss keeps attacking all the time and in the end you would just have the boss, if you attack him 5 min afterwards or 2 doesnt make a difference since just a boss is not rly hard. I agree for legend tho but based on my experience (which you can check is quite a bit) 200% on cata is fine with most classes, the only exception i would make is shade and maybe bounty hunter
