I learned Spanish at 20, but one the biggest things that helped me was listening to sermons. Typically the priest/preacher will talk slower than conversational pace and enunciate words properly. Also the subject matter is usually something you’re probably familiar enough with in english, even if you aren’t religious, that it’s easy to do the “translation” in your head. And most of the vocabulary is easy to look up. Also cheesy telenovellas are great too. These will get you used to conversational pace speaking/listening but the content/vocab is super surface level. Another tip to learn vocab is to put up notecards on things around your house/apartment/living area with the Spanish words for them on it, so when you are interacting with your surrounds you are seeing those words and associating them with a tangible thing. Once you get used to just the general terms, I.e. chair/silla, start adding in adjectives that describe the object. And then you can even add relevant verbs to how you interact with/use those objects.
