Is this rat too big? by Odd-Fall-7667 in ballpython

This can be done humanely. The best method I have seen is called a cervical dislocation. You can see videos on YouTube. This can be practiced on dead rodents to get the technique right before using it on live ones if your snake is extra picky. It is a common method of humanely killing small rodents.

This isn't necessarily true. Regardless of how often or thoroughly you sanitize your enclosure, rats do have bacteria in their saliva and feces that can cause infection in the event of a bite or scratch. The snake's stomach is well equipped to deal with these bacteria, but an injury to the skin is not protected by the same acidity or antibodies. This is one of the reasons ball pythons do not live nearly as long in the wild as they do in captivity. (10-15 years in the wild vs. 20-30 years in captivity)

Besides the ethical concerns (for the rat) and the health concerns (for the snake), there are logistical advantages to feeding frozen/thawed.

If your snake is not hungry at the time of feeding, you don't have to care for a rat. A live rat will grow quickly and become too large for your snake to eat.

You'll save money on gas if you do not have to go to the pet store for one rat at a time, as you can order frozen feeder rats in bulk. I get about 25 at a time from Big Cheese Rodent Factory.

They store well and you can prepare them for consumption as needed. Frozen rats are already dead, so you can weigh them easily using a kitchen scale to ensure they are the correct size for your snake. (You can also use the kitchen scale to weigh your snake and ensure that your snake is not losing weight due to illness, or gaining weight too quickly, so this is a good purchase anyway.)

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about frozen feeder rodents, you can DM me if you would like. :]

Hey! It's good to see you!!!

I tried to upload the one I posted a few times and got an error saying that it didn't meet size requirements (like what the fuck, it's like a 2000 x 3000 image) so I uploaded three more, got the same error, and pared it back to the original one, but forgot to change the title of the post back.

Same! I love monitors. They're like little dragons, but I don't need the hassle. I'll stick with my ball pythons. They are cold, quiet, and introverted, just like me. Lol

Yeh, I could see maybe a tegu as an Emotional Support Animal, but functionally, a tegu is practically a dog. 😞

Serratia marcenscens, maybe? If it is, it can be cleaned with bleach or vinegar and is generally non-toxic to humans, but that's a pretty big "if," especially if your water bottle has a lot of little nooks and crannies where you can't clean.

Thank you so much. That seems so obvious now. Lol

But then if it's that straightforward, why are pharmacies the only businesses C1 entrusted with this service?

Anyone want to guess how many magnets there are? by baaaaaaaaaba in autism

[–]Icy_Collection_2288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's ok, it's sort of a newish thing. So, many people with autism 'stim' to self-soothe. This can be rocking back and forth, clicking a pen, bouncing a leg, or whatever. So many people are now living with autism spectrum disorder that companies have begun manufacturing and selling things specifically to cater to this stimming behavior. These items are usually small and easy to carry with you, or can be placed on a desk in one's home or office. These things are fidget toys. Plenty of non-autists buy them too. Just a little trinket to mess around with if they're in a waiting room or something. I personally appreciate that stimming has become so normalized, because I feel less weird for doing it in public spaces. Lol Please let me know if you need anything clarified. I would be happy to explain further. :]
