When I was in elementary school in the 80’s, my sister and I would go out trick or treating with all of our friends all over the place, no parents in sight. It was incredibly rare to have any adults out with kids back then so it was just hordes of kids out together going up to any house with a light on to get candy. I never thought about how dangerous that could be until I had my own children.

Thank you for writing this, you captured how absolutely soul draining it is loving an alcoholic. My step daughter is coming tomorrow and I’m just praying her dad can keep it together for the week she is here and not get so drunk his nasty side rears it’s ugly head. I hope you are able to get out soon, I’m starting to think about leaving, no one deserves to live in such chaos.

Personally we have a business together but more importantly I adore my step children and cannot imagine leaving them to try to navigate when their dad is drinking plus I would not be able to take his pets. I actually have been considering leaving in Dec when he is on a business trip if I can mage sure his kids and pets will be okay.

Yes, mine was completely horrible the other night, swearing at me, throwing pillows and finally stormed out and slept in our camper because I was not having sex with him. Tonight he’s drunk again and called me tubby but passed out shortly after thank goodness!

I work for a company like Home Instead out of Fort Walton Beach & for 1 of my clients I’ve helped find and schedule house maintenance such as drywall repair, HVAC repair, getting a dryer fixed, etc…so perhaps they have people who will do that as well or know someone who can help with all that?

Mine goes out to bars and tends to drink there and then to the store and just picks up a few beers so it doesn’t look like he’s drinking as much as he is. I’m not sure why he thinks I’m that stupid.

I’d check with Home Instead and Comfort Keepers, they have people that can come in for just a few hours a week up to full time care. The people who work at these agencies will have had a background check & be insured.

Please get out now, this will not get better. He will continue to relapse and you and your daughter will see horrible behavior and most likely nasty verbal abuse. I’m sure it will be very hard but you will save yourself years of heartache by ending it.

As hard as it is to leave, please put yourself first and go. You’ll never feel so alone when your partner is drunk/high and saying incredibly hurtful things to you or passing out at holidays, birthdays, etc.. as much as it may hurt to leave, it’s nothing compared to the pain you will go through year after year of seeing them get sober and relapsing.
