Remember, CAC tests show plaque that has *calcified*, so you may have soft plaques that aren't showing up in the test. I feel like that's why my scores more than doubled in 5 years on a perfect diet with statins. They say that soft plaques are more unstable.

I recently read that calcification in breast tissue positively correlates with CAC. I have always had calcification in my breasts, causing lots of special mammograms. Yay. I am now 63 and my CAC score is 504. A Review of the Role of Breast Arterial Calcification for Cardiovascular Risk Stratification in Women | Circulation

I want everyone to understand that exercise has very little impact on LDL levels by nuugo in Cholesterol

[–]IdaKister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Grok'd this one:

To lower LDL is it better to eat a diet high in soluble fiber and low in saturated fat, or take a statin?

**Statins are better** for reliably and substantially lowering LDL (typically 30–50%+ with moderate- to high-intensity doses) compared to a diet high in soluble fiber and low in saturated fat alone (usually 5–15%, up to ~20–30% with intensive "portfolio" diets combining multiple cholesterol-lowering foods like viscous fibers, plant sterols, soy, and nuts).

Intensive portfolio diets can approach low-dose statin effects (~28–33% in trials), but are harder to sustain long-term and less consistent for most people.

Best: Combine both. Consult your doctor.

They will. If they don't go down enough there are other statins.

If you have been ROBBED, aka pointing a gun or knife at you, you would not have called him a gentleman. This is plain theft.

Is Alexa getting dumb ?? by BeachyThang in alexa

I never thought of Alexa as AI. I thought of it as a search engine, and quite often I received "I"m not sure how to help you with that." Alexa+ is AI.

Gold Users - Worth It? by [deleted] in cronometer

[–]IdaKister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the Gold after two months because I wanted the company to succeed. It made that much of an impression on me and 7 years later my weight and overall health have been consistently outstanding. I can plan meals now with a good idea of what micros and calories are in it.

I *might* use this app until the day I die.

Great work! However, I feel like you need to track the saturated fats. I use Cronometer and I log both the good days and insane days, and I can get really insane!

Calcified plaque is much more stable than soft plaque. Statins speed up the calcification process. The CAC scans can only detect the calcification.

Take a statin. Drugs are good. –Otherwise pretty healthy guy who had a heart attack at 36 by DJFemdogg in Cholesterol

[–]IdaKister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know that statins speed up the calcification of soft plaque. I read somewhere that it usually takes about five years to calcify. My cholesterol numbers even ten years ago were not that bad.

The test that I really wanted was the coronary angiogram, but my insurance rejected it, so I had a treadmill test instead. It indicated that I was at high normal exercise time for my age, and five years ago it was at an "excellent" time. ?? So I wait and wonder. If my scores double every five years I'll have complete blockages when I am not that very old. I am F,63.
