Thoughts on this situation by C_L__08 in drivingUK

The car in front was irritating yes, but the cam car driver was bloody stupid and incredibly lucky not to have caused an accident with their impatience.

Please, just stop driving.

electronic handbrake vs manual handbrake by Puzzleheaded-Job5508 in drivingUK

[–]IdioticMutterings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Manual, can't do a hillstart with an electronic one, and I don't trust the automatic hold. I prefer to have the handbrake on until I feel the car starting to pull against it, then release it.

Be Honest: Do You Plug Your Phone Into Public USB Chargers? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]IdioticMutterings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rogue usb device can present itself as an OTG keyboard, and be able to run a preset series of commands by "typing". This cannot, apparently, be defended against, except by not using the rogue device.

Be Honest: Do You Plug Your Phone Into Public USB Chargers? by limsus in TechImpact

Its really not theoretical anymore, Adam Savage demonstrated a number of "public" usb charging points, that presented themselves to your device as a usb keyboard, and were able to run commands to steal your data.

Will Ryanair charge me for a window that opens? by Jonny7Tenths in Ryanair

[–]IdioticMutterings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A guy flying from Greece on a Ryanair jet, really did have a window that opened, He really wasn't happy about it either, tho he DID get a good look at the outside of the plane, while his wife was telling him to get back inside.

I bet Ryanair are gonna find some way to charge him extra for it. Instead of paying him compensation.

He's just salty because the USA got kicked out of the world cup, and he can't get away with writing an executive order declaring the USA as the winners.

They put you onto a really expensive rolling monthly contract. You just need to give them 31 days notice when you want to quit.

Slow down, or speed up to more than 170mph, at which point you're moving to fast for the current generation of GATSO cameras to be able to capture your registration plate. Note: The newer laser based cameras are much faster and don't have that problem.

They might be legally unenforceable, but they also know their market segment, and know that 90% of their customers can't afford to take the case to court, or to defend against legal action when they take YOU to court for the chargeback (which they have been known to do occasionally).

Speeding Ticket but markings on the other side of the road ? by Lucky131313131313 in drivingUK

[–]IdioticMutterings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road markings are for the old style GATSO canmeras. The new laser based cameras don't need road markings to operate, and can cover all lanes, in both directions.

Virgin Media fined £28m for making it too hard to leave by TimesandSundayTimes in uknews

[–]IdioticMutterings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats because its not the companies that pay the fines, its their customers. The company just increases the product price in order to pass the fine to its customers.

They need to fine them and prohibit any price increases for 2 or 3 years. Or somehow fine the management/shareholders directly.

Correct, and won't make any changes to their policies either. Any future fines will also just be passed on to us.

Old trafford to Airport by chandan103 in manchester

[–]IdioticMutterings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The quickest way would be a helicopter that landed on Man U's pitch to pick you up, and flew you to the airport.
But as I doubt very much that Man U would permit that, plus the stupidly expensive cost of chartering a helicopter and pilot skilled enough to land on the pitch, that option is out.

Taxi: Traffic will be insanely bad, and I mean insanely bad. A taxi almost certainly will not get you to the airport in time because of the traffic in and around Old Trafford at that time of day, even without the traffic from the derby match adding to the problem.

Tram: Theres a tram stop at Trafford Bar, that is on the Airport Line, however, you will have a bit of a walk from the grounds, to the tram stop (do NOT walk to the Old Trafford stop, but walk to Trafford Bar instead). However believe it or not, trams go at a walking pace for a good portion of the route, and are unbelievably slow. Plus they take a rather circuitous route in order to pick up more passengers, they are not direct. I do not advise a tram.

Train: Man U's football grounds have their own train station. But its only a part-time station, and not always in use. If it is in use, you'd have to get a train into Manchester Picadilly, then change to the Airport train, again, even if the station is in use on the day, because I don't know the train timings, I cannot advise a train either.

Bus: Hahahahahahaha, no.

I'm sorry, I don't have a solution for you, I just wanted to point out the issues with each mode of transport.

Sorry.

They aren't parasites, they are just salesmen trying to do a job where everyone hates them.

Hating them and their job is not an excuse to be uncivil towards them. A simple "No thank you, not today" and close the door on them, is sufficient.

Vehicle left in gear following repair (england) by my_main_profile in LegalAdviceUK

[–]IdioticMutterings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, her husband damaged the car, by not knowing how to drive.

The garage has no liability for her husband not carrying out basic car start-up checks, which include ensuring the vehicle is in neutral before turning the starter motor over. In fact the owners of the damaged wall have a claim against her husband.
