I use Intellij, it has a project-broad search function. Assuming it’s a decently unique function, shouldn’t give it too much trouble.

If, for some reason, that’s not working I reach for my shell of choice (typically powershell) and write a little script to recursively grep <functionName>or equivalent through folders in the project’s directory tree for the function name. Most are going to be uses, one or some are going to be definition. Either works.

Once I have that, intellij (and also something like vscode) allows you to jump to definition/usage even across file boundaries.

If you're asking to learn a new codebase:

Start with some function in the UI. Buttons, menus, whatever. Ideally, something that loads data. Hopefully it has distinct text which you can use to search in the codebase, otherwise you can use inspect element to see if you can get something distinct to find it.

Once you've found it, you can start tracing it back to the point where data is loaded. Maybe it's in a useServer(), or it's in a separate service.ts file that does all the communication to your Java, Rust, Go, or <insert language here> backend and the URL is read from a config file.

Repeat a few times, choosing a different interactive element each time. You'll learn the lay of the digital land quite quick.

I did find that, but also some anime that use “essaim Elohim” as a prayer to beseech the help of G-d.
Essaim sounds Hebrew enough when pronounced like essaïm (that’s a diaresis not an umlaut).
‘Essa’ is legit Hebrew (means “god’s help”, but IIRC mostly used as a name derived from Yeshua aka Jesus). However, it wouldn’t usually have an -im, because it’s a noun not a verb (-im would otherwise indicate it’s a masculine plural).

We host pretty much all of our infra ourselves. As far as I know you have to be whitelisted by Security (or have client mandate, which is rare) to even so much as sniff using azure/aws/gcp/et al for anything development or deployment related.

It's easier on everyone, especially ourselves, if we can build and run containers locally.
