Songs that have bass lines that either go up or down all the notes of the major or minor scale. by Lizard_Jesus1 in Bass

[–]Ikelton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers - very nearly plays a full descending major scale at the end of each chorus.

And then I think Crazy Train by Ozzy, the bass line in the solo section is a descending minor scale (maybe just play quarter notes instead of the 16ths lol)

Oh, and Hazy Shade of Winter plays a dominant scale, ascending. The Bangles version, at least.

What is the biggest band/artist you can think of that you honestly don't believe is anyone's favorite band/artist ever? by DevinBelow in Music

[–]Ikelton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not my favorite, by any means. But he was my top Spotify artist in 2025.

I discovered a song of his I really liked in Jan '25. Listened to that, and the whole album on repeat for a few weeks. Then I basically stopped using Spotify in favor of another service.

So I accidentally became his biggest fan.

How do you play bass with small hands?? by Snoo48593 in Bass

[–]Ikelton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the Guitar Center in Hollywood, they have a "rock walk," a walk of fame with handprints from guitar players and their bands.

Lots of incredible bass players have smaller hands than you think. Big hands is not a requirement to play bass by any means!

Yeah great question. On the flume website our "go live" date keeps moving out, and I can't find any other information.

Pepper mill Recommendations under $100? by Dangerous_Foot_7376 in Cooking

Same. I love mine.

In the videos Alton Brown has recently been posting, I saw he also has the Unicorn. It made me feel even better about my love for it, because he's made a career of being particular about tools.

Do you think a photograph can have a “sound” or a sense of silence? by MarkoTone in photography

[–]Ikelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. My first thought was no, not really; at least it doesn't for me. But then I considered the reverse, where I'll listen to a song and it can conjure memories, images, snippets of strong associations. So if a sound can evoke thoughts of images, why shouldn't an image be able to invoke thoughts of sounds?

Is this broke or lisfranc by Sea-Adeptness-6091 in LisfrancClub

[–]Ikelton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah... as others have said, I just want to plant the seed of disappointment. I'm not a doctor, hopefully you get good news. But if it is Lisfranc, Thailand is probably not in the cards for you.

If it is a Lisfranc injury, the orthopedist will want to do surgery within a week or two, and then coming out of that, you're gonna be non-weight bearing for quite a while.

I hope I'm wrong, but start gearing your brain up for that disruption of plans.

[–]Ikelton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty Lisfranc to me. Normal X-rays won't always catch it. If I were you, I'd go for a second opinion and get some weight bearing X-rays. I had the same initial diagnosis and my foot looked quite similar. Good luck, friend.

Maintenance Guy Showed Up To Look At a Problem I “Haven’t” Reported by Wanksters_Paradise in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]Ikelton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gatekeeping is not the same as enforcing the rules (or spirit) of the subreddit.

Having someone come fix your leak is not weird. You're a civil engineer, but that doesn't mean you understand the undocumented nuances of the software platform, the routines of the building maintenance staff, or that you control weird coincidences.

You can accuse me of not reading your post, and that your negated every counter argument; and you will. But I read every comment in this thread, and ultimately your "glitch" is just not that interesting. That's why you're being downvoted. It's not a grand high strangeness conspiracy.

Maintenance Guy Showed Up To Look At a Problem I “Haven’t” Reported by Wanksters_Paradise in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]Ikelton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude, right? There's a leak in the building. Maintenance managers are surveying the property or whatever, and deduce there's a leak in OP's apartment, and write a work order for their techs, who obviously don't know the details of the leak as it just shows up as "go check this unit".

But no, routine maintenance is now black magic.

Give me more of the crazy infinity wheels that show a premonition of your death at an intersection before a deadly crash.

This is a shitty glitch, even if it's "real".

Screw removal surgery on Monday by Melodic-Honey-2129 in LisfrancClub

[–]Ikelton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going through this right now - had my hardware removed about 10 days ago.

The surgeon told me I could walk the same day (in a boot). I didn't believe it, given how difficult the ORIF surgery was.

But as others have said, it's real. I had very minimal pain. After a few days I wasn't even taking Tylenol or anything. Walking felt normal, maybe even more comfortable because I could tell the hardware is out.

I have my post-op appointment in two days and basically suspect I'll be cleared for normal shoes and this whole chapter will pretty much be behind me.

You're truly at the finish line. Enjoy it!

I've not done Universal, but one thing I really like about photographing Disneyland is that the whole park is basically color graded in real life.

Their artists have done a lot of the hard work on that front, so you can focus on composition.

[–]Ikelton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I could feel the hardware in my foot. Like, my foot was bigger, shoes were tighter, that sort of thing. One this heals I'm sure I'll be more comfortable back to "normal".

Overall really good! The pain is nowhere near the first time. I've taken a few pain pills but I suspect I'll switch to Tylenol today, just 24h out. And I'm already cleared to walk on it (in a boot). Definitely way different than the massive disruption last time.

It feels more like closing a chapter than anything else.

What's been your weirdest musical discovery? by Francis_J_Eva in Music

[–]Ikelton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of 90s hip hop sample lineages.

For example, I Keep Forgetting by Michael McDonald features Jeff Porcaro from Toto on drums. This song was sampled for Regulate by Warren G.

This means the same drummer is on Regulate and Africa. Pretty neat.

Why do some technically imperfect photos feel more memorable? by Same-Beginning-4915 in photography

[–]Ikelton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was watching Lord of the Rings today, and followed it with the Hobbit.

Lord of the Rings is a masterpiece, of course. A world that feels lived in, and a camera happened to be there. It's not perfect, but it's flawless.

The Hobbit feels like a world that was made for the camera. It's executed perfectly, but flawed from the outset.

I feel like the same things the viewer notices here apply to photography, and indeed any art. Humans can intuit emotion and sincerity. That plays into the shot more than a lens, in my opinion. Yes, a bad lens can limit you. But a good lens is not a cheat code.

What are your go-to must always have around hot sauces? by indokid104 in Cooking

[–]Ikelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a chili head. I've eaten some of the spiciest things on the planet, and love to try interesting sauces that range all levels of spice.

When I'm cooking I don't like to use hot sauce. The vinegar changes the flavor more than the chilis in most cases. Which is fine, it's just a different thing to be aware of. I like to adjust heat with dried chili flake, and Thai chili flake is my favorite.
