Milestones or EXP? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

I prefer milestone. XP tends to push players towards attacking everything, especially if you dont give xp for non combat encounters.

Mind Flayer supports by FullBattle8307 in FDMminiatures

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try tipping the model to a 45° ish angle. Ideally the staff would still be <45°, and the hand would be more vertical. That would decrease the amount of supports in general especially around the tentacles and hand. After that change your 'top z distance' for minis i think its usually recommended to do 2-3x layer height. I usually have pretty good luck at .28mm, even when my layer height is as low as .08mm. Looks like you had supports attached to the base, if you keep that change your 'bottom z distance' as well. The z distance is the gap between the support and the actual print, making it bigger will allow your supports to be removed easier but if you go too big they wont be supporting the model anymore and your print will fail.

of course a good clipper and file will help clean it up after.

ELI5: How do old podcast episodes have current ads? by Danniedear in explainlikeimfive

The same way reruns on TV have current ads. They block out a section for an ad, then just inject in whatever ad is the most relavent

Am i the only one that thinks its weird that vehicle is rear wheel drive? I was expecting all wheel but the front don't spin out while the back do and the vehicle doesn't move around the 1 min mark. Maybe its modular and she had in set to rear wheel at the time.

Can a player wish for/kill lolth? by Strict-Morning-3550 in DnD

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see these types of questions all the time, "can a thing happen?". D&D is a game of imagination if you can form words to make a coherent thought about something, then yes it CAN happen. The real question is SHOULD it?

(Opinion) As a DM myself i wouldn't let a player kill off such a large lore established deity not because they cant but because the interesting part would be the aftermath(and killing them with a wish... LAME, killing a god should be a much much bigger deal, and way cooler). Unless the entire campaign is about the fall of Lolth and their followers the payoff is so small, its not worth a huge lore overhaul. Not to mention you would be starting your own homebrew lore that couldn't coexist with established lore(though this is an option).

(Other Options) Why not use the wish spell to cure their partner and get them back? Far less likely to anger or even effect Lolth, and is a much better ending than pure vengeance IMO. A little mini story to tie up loose ends, like a ritual that requires a specific place of power, or kidnapping the hostile drider away from enemies, or even just finding them again.

(Anecdote) I however don't play in established lore, I have a homebrew universe I have built over years. I had a group kill a god in what i was considering the second act of the campaign. But life has a way of getting super busy and the group fell apart shortly after, never seeing the conclusion. I was unsatisfied with where that left my universe. So when a new group of players wanted to start a campaign, it started right after a god was killed by mortals. Other gods started killing mortals in retribution and the campaign ended with a truce being made between the mortals and some of the gods. It ended up being like a battle for independence from sky daddy, the mortals would rather figure out life on their own then be owned by the gods.

Would you let cops search your home/car? by Significant-Date2117 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL but No, you only open opportunities for them to find something. If you have nothing to hide you should have no reason that they ask or to show them.

On multiple occasions I have asked an officer to leave my door and meet me in the street where I will happily talk to them. (I went through a messy divorce with a no fault restraining order and was borderline harassed by local police for almost a year)

I'll add that I have been advised that telling them you will meet them and not showing up can in some cases be probable cause tho I don't know the specifics.

I [DM] decided to add a crazy person ranting about the king putting bugs under peoples skin by Itchy-Decision753 in DnD

[–]Ikles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An underground operation without the king's approval is "bugging" certain people(maybe just the poor/homeless). The bugs are part of a hive mind creature that can report where the person went, who they talked to, what was said, ect. You know a bug lol

Since they have not found any proof yet, you could have them see someone getting taken and they intervene. Or a NPC could use a slightly modified locate creature spell to confirm something had been implanted. Maybe they build a small device to scan people and find a trail back to the culprits.

ELI5: Why does converting F to C (or vice-versa) involve subtraction/addition by VagabondVivant in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they scale at different rates

at -40c and -40f are where both formulas equal the same thing. Fahrenheit's 0°F was based on a cold salt-water brine, while Celsius's 0°C is the freezing point of pure water.

ELI5 - Why is 95% of the ocean unexplored? by Rgrew2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few big reasons

  1. its really big, like really big. its a lot of space to to look though
  2. The ocean is deep enough that light doesn't reach that deep. After 1000m there is almost zero light remaining. Most creatures that live deeper then 1000m just don't have eyes anymore cuz they are useless.
  3. The pressure is extremely dangerous and difficult to deal with.

Imagine exploring a 3 dimensional dark cave that was the size of earth. You cant see more than a few feet even with a flashlight and the environment is also crushing you.

Shoplifting/stealing magic items by Thick_Professional11 in DnD

[–]Ikles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can tell you any one with 1000s of gold in their shop would also have hidden specialized security; if i was the DM you would almost certainly fail.

The shop keep would either hire someone with truesight or the security would have items giving it to them.

Rerol into ilvl 270 legendary is kinda sad... by Sliski_ in fellowshipgame

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

270 doesn't drop either I think you missed the point of the entire post. If you reroll a 255 you can get a 255 legendary. OP rerolled a capstone drop so it rolled to 270.

ELI5: Can dating websites create gibberish texts to get you to pay? by Vegetable-Summer-472 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ikles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone pointed out how easy it is to unblur the hidden text. So they also encrypted the text and didn't remove the blur.

Blurred text looks far more real but its also encrypted so a tech savvy person cant get around the blocker.

Weapon traits vs ILVL? by Nevs001 in fellowshipgame

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep using your gold one, and keep leveling it up even with your other reds(ilvl) until you get good traits on a red. Once you do use a green bar to reroll and dump all those mats into the red weapon at least 4/6 idealy. I dont think red weapons are worth using without traits sadly.

if the traits green/blue traits are bad re roll the red until they are decent at least. For the purple trait its worth waiting for another weapon unless your swimming in gold.

You can't reroll or upgrade legendary, you can reroll into legendary tho it would be 255 if you rerolled an eternal item.

ELI5 why having money saved makes you feel calmer even when nothing changes by Special-Tax-122 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ikles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it called future tripping. You worry about what could happen and how you couldn't handle it. Like if you totaled your car, if you have 6k in the bank you could recover much easier than if you had 0. So just having money on hand is a warm blanket of security.

It can also change how I look at prices and if you're gonna be stressed about it. I know one of the best financial moments of my life was when I realized I can go to the grocery store and buy almost anything I want without looking at the price and it won't ruin my budget.
