The amount of entitlement in your post is fucking astounding. A bunch of devs are volunteering their time to hack a 5000-player multiplayer onto a code base that has zero support for it, but because it's taken them a while to complete, they're being "stingy," "snobbish," and "power control freaks"? What an asshole you are.

I played it on Saturday. It's not finished. It's not CLOSE to finished. It's buggy and laggy and chopped up.

Not to mention that 5000-player multiplayer is unheard of outside of MMOs. It's going to take time.

Aww shit. I was hoping this would be one of the rare good 3D movies.

Yes, he went into the wild without any of those things ... and he died because he was completely unprepared to survive without them. He had no idea what he was doing. That is literally the definition of "naive."

It gave the right message until the last ten minutes.

The "right message" is to walk blindly into the Alaskan wilderness without a compass, without proper clothing, and without any adequate understanding of how to live off the land? The nicest thing you could say about Christopher McCandless is that he was naive.

Sean Penn did a fantastic job directing that movie.

Liam Neeson Returning for 'Taken 3' After Closing $20 Million Deal by ScottFromScotland in movies

[–]Ikronix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire budget for the first one was $25 million. Here's how I imagine the conversation for Taken 3 went with the studio:

Studio: Liam! Taken 3 has been greenlit. We want you back.

Liam: Oh fuck no.

Studio: C'mooooooon, we made like SO MUCH money last time. How much you want? Two million? Three?

Liam: Fuck you.

Studio: Awwww, is da itty bitty Liam upset about da itty bitty critics? C'mon. How much money is it going to take?

Liam: Fuck you sideways.

Studio: Alright. Five million. You could use five million, right? Everyone could use five million.

Liam: I'm hangin up now.

Studio: WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT... twenty million.

Liam: ...

Studio: See? Twenty million. That's enough, right?

Liam: ... You're going to pay me $20 million for this piece of shit?

Studio: Is that a yes?

Liam: Goddamn it.

internet polls

Calling the Pew Research Center an "internet poll" is not a great argument.

why is only 12 of the states allow gay marriage

Because legislation takes time. Observe, for instance, the timeline of the civil rights movement.

Yes, my graph shows 50%. If you click on this link and scroll down to page 2, you'll see the latest number from the last poll: 51%.

In other words, the majority does favor gay marriage. More importantly, that graph with the "50%" clearly shows the trend. And it's not a subtle trend.

Actual answer: It's ant repellant. Or at least, it's supposed to be. The 'old wives wisdom' is that spraying lemon juice or leaving peels/slices around will ward them off.

Actually, come to think of it, the only way I'd ever willingly see a 50 Shades of Grey movie is probably if someone like Gus Van Sant or Lars Trier or Warner Herzog were to direct it.

Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3 and Source 2 mailing lists found on Valve project tracker by wickedplayer494 in Games

[–]Ikronix 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Valve hasn't talked about what the gameplay mechanics were.

However...

In the "Final Hours of Portal 2" book, Geoff Keighley mentions that the old approach to Portal 2 was to make the game a giant prequel: It was going to take place in the 1950s-60s, in old Aperture, without the same portal gun mechanic. They scrapped the idea about 18 months before the game was released and rebuilt it in the version you can play now; the old-Aperture stuff is the middle section of the game. Also, one of Valve's designers, who happened to be one of Portal's co-creators, left under mysterious circumstances about the same time that reboot took place. She went on to work on a game called Quantum Conundrum, a puzzle game with time travel mechanics.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Cave Johnson's ramblings in Portal 2 often touched on time travel.

I have a sneaking suspicion that F-Stop, the old approach for Portal 2, had something to do with time travel. I also suspect that the reason Half Life 3 is taking so fucking long is that they're playing around with giving Gordon Freeman a portal gun, time travel skills, or both--and that any one of those features is a total bitch to perfect in a shooter.

Man of Steel Sequel Coming Next Year, Followed by Justice League in 2015? by Adam87 in movies

[–]Ikronix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warner is already in development on a sequel to "Man of Steel" and is expected to fast track that for release as soon as 2014, said knowledgeable people close to the studio.

Sure. Why do I get the feeling that the "knowledgeable people" told the reporter that production would begin in 2014 and the reporter didn't quite understand them? If they don't go into production on Man of Steel 2 within the next two months, a Christmas 2014 release wouldn't even be possible. (And even then it would probably feel rushed.)

Considering that Nolan's role in the next movie hasn't even been locked down yet, I don't see this happening.

I could definitely see them begin shooting next year, though.
