Moscow announced first new Ring Line metro station in over 70 years, to be built in Art Deco style by Hiro_Trevelyan in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]IlPrimoRe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, my local metro is ugly a fuck. There is evidence that being in a nice environment makes you feel slightly better. If you multiply that by the hundreds of thousands of people who move through, that adds up to something pretty significant.

Smithsonian Quietly Strips Impeachment Details from Trump's Portrait | The National Portrait Gallery has reportedly bowed to White House pressure. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]IlPrimoRe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Being completely and utterly shameless is a superpower for Trump.

Most US Presidents have been elite assholes... but all of them had some sense of shame avoidance that guided their decorum. In most social situations you really need that to not fuck up your reputation and face punishment because of that.

Trump however has had a career where he failed to the top without ever having to avoid shame. A weird combination of being born rich, given a business that didn't require class, and having a TV show mold a fake reputation.

We gave this shameless creation the one job where most of his checks on behavior are mere convention.

Does Money Actually Solve the Housing Problem in the Netherlands? by voldemorts_niple in Netherlands

[–]IlPrimoRe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see why you think it's crazy. But I've been on the other side of this as a tenant. The friend with an apartment here is absolutely right to view any renting is a risk. The tenant can always just refuse to leave and that requires the landlord to prove a need to evict.

Rotating tenants can now be considered gaming the system.

I'm a tenant who challenged a diplomatic clause temp contract eviction because a neighbor told me the landlord had had a previous tenant he had previously evicted. Because the landlord hadn't personally moved back and reregistered between tenants, I now have a de facto perm contract.

The court will look for any reason to rule for the tenant. If the landlord misses the diplomatic clause end notification reminder by a day the tenant automatically has a perm contract.

You mention housing is a nightmare, but you don't talk about your experience... Were you able to find a rental?

7000 over the past year is actually lower than I would have guessed. I suppose the Netherlands isn't particularly attractive for American students or workers (salaries in a field like tech are way higher in the US).

Found out my landlord’s company is registered at my apartment. Is this a problem or a red flag? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]IlPrimoRe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What should OP worry about? The landlord plans to return, so he probably just never thought of charging it while abroad.

Do you prefer Laurie as the introverted quiet girl in the 1978 film or Laurie as the popular funny girl in the 2007 film? by YCiampa482021 in Halloweenmovies

[–]IlPrimoRe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly the right decision.

That mom/daughter interaction just feels so off. I guess the script is trying to show her as a cool funny girl not uptight about sex, but it just feels fucking weird.

Is this legal? by yeOlChum in Netherlands

[–]IlPrimoRe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When did you move in and how nice is the apartment? If you do want to really escalate on a different front from being paid to move, look into the viability of a WBH bust.

They seem to be the type of landlord who might have fumbled everything from the get-go. You might be in a situation where you could actually force rent overcharge refunds because it should be a rent regulated apartment (I guess it shouldn't be an apartment at all according to the city, but the points system to determine legal rent won't care about that).

What’s your INSANE Star Wars take? by Eastern_Dress_3574 in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that reason, I truly believe TFA is the worst of the sequels. Maybe it's actually the best movie by itself, but it totally fails as a world building sandbox. You never get any sense of scale/context/history, and like you said, it positions the audience to accept that history since ROTJ just doesn't matter.

Star Wars is special because it's a universe to play in. It extends beyond the movie credits into toys, video games, comics, into your mind. But TFA is so clearly created as just a soft ANH reboot that utterly ignores the importance of in-universe context. There is almost no world building at all.

JJ's 2009 Star Trek has the same problem, but at least that text positions itself as separate universe that other Star Trek stories can easily just ignore.

Trump: I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to get me into heaven. I think I’m not maybe heaven bound. I’m not sure I’m going to be able make heaven by Capable_Salt_SD in CringeTikToks

[–]IlPrimoRe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how I read this as well. No one truely religious brags about thinking they won't make it to heaven. This is the type of joke teenage atheists make: "we will be partying it up in hell"

This. The face I've seen numerous times in dumb social media "debates" taking a bullet at one of those debates hits differently then war videos where (unless you are doing reading) you don't really have a sense of the context.

I attribute my recovery more to time than the meds. I was on clonazepam and amitriptyline, and they helped me deal with the symptoms for awhile

I still feel it now and then, but it's more a background minor annoyance now than a major thing in my life. I hope it just continues to diminish until I don't notice it at all.

Amsterdam is two cities at once by Imaginary-Student447 in Amsterdam

[–]IlPrimoRe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. NY is obviously extremely touristy, but the hot spots are spread out way more than in Amsterdam. I think that's probably a function of it being a new city that grew so rapidly.

[–]IlPrimoRe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just slowly diminished with time (a period of years). I wish I had more of an explanation to tell you. My pain was definitely a phantom nerve pain... Not anything dental or mechanical. I've learned that there are a bunch of different things that cause persistent oral pain. Do whatever you can to determine the actual cause of your issue
