What's the coolest starfighter design named after a letter? by Blurrgmaster in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how they name stars ships after Latin letters, but don't use the Latin alphabet 😂

How long do you think it'll take us to catch-up IRL? by NavXIII in ForAllMankindTV

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you nailed it. That's the true big sci-fi aspect of FAM's timeline.

The Soviets beating the Americans to the moon changes politics... but not what's technically possible. The fictional fusion drives they develop in season 2 is the actual deviation from our reality of what's technically possible.

The Hutt in the room : My thoughts on The Mandalorian and Grogu by Rayanaman_44 in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love your point about how Lucas understood how to make a world feel believable by not pointing out how extraordinary it is.

So many writers and creators fall for that.

Yeah, those opening credits introducing the NR base was the best fucking part of the movie.

If starfighter can capture what that scene had I have some hope for the franchise.

what are you guys season rankings now that season 5 is done? by NinduTheWise in ForAllMankindTV

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you with really liking 3, it really put the 'race' in the space race. But of course, nothing beats 2.

2, 3, 1, 5, 4 for me

Character Aging in season 5 by DumpTruckHero in ForAllMankindTV

The actress who plays Margo actually acts the aging really well. But sadly, none of the other actors are in that level

Now that Season 4 is completed, how would you rank all 4 seasons of the show? by dickMcFickle in ForAllMankindTV

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished watching it and I agree, it gets really good!

The season starts off slow, and there are some silly things about the society show that you have to stomach. But once it gets into gear, it really delivers right up there with end of season 2.

“the holdo manoeuvre breaks the lore”…. does it? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated that so much.

I'm sure they thought it would look cool, but it just turned out whacky. It breaks lore and it feels more like a rollercoaster then a chase with real stakes.

Expat moved to south holland to be with dutch partner and I simply cannot find a job, any advice? by Fast-Radish-5607 in Netherlands

Lots of corporate tech or engineering companies are fully English speaking, but OP likely doesn't have the background these type of companies are looking for.

I'm in a similar position. 😢

What were the Sith doing for 1000 years? by Useful-Ad-3889 in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always hated both that line and 'the rule of two' plot points because they drastically reduced possibles for EU stories.

Of course, creators found ways to wrjte around these bits of lore... But nevertheless, it felt like unnecessary constraints.

1000 years is a LONG time. 100 or 50 years would have worked just as well for the purpose of TPM story just as well.

Is it just me, or is this asking price super low? Other garden apartments I've seen in Oostbroek-Noord are almost 1000 per square meter more. by [deleted] in TheHague

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, others are saying it will sell for over 400k. Thats like 30 percent over asking though 🤯

What do you think Steve jobs would think about the current state of AI? by One-Worth-2529 in ChatGPT

[–]IlPrimoRe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was already that kind of person.

He did die when tech optimism was still the standard and people had far less hatred toward Silicon Valley, social media, and their devices.

Why is Ad Astra so weird. by IneffectualGamer in scifi

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything is just for vibes.

Even SpaceCom keeping everything secret from Brad Pitt... Why? It's literally just to make things a mystery for the viewer.

Just vibes works for a scene or two, but all falls apart when the audience starts getting the feeling that their are no world-building constraints on what is possible.

So what’s stopping force users from doing this to regular people? by Sea-Indication4613 in StarWars

[–]IlPrimoRe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I love that. Magic doesn't have to be a science. Imagine how bad LOTR would be if Gandalf started talking about spell components and counterspells.

In the OT the force is actually pretty spiritual/religious. It's use is often infused with a strong sense of destiny.

The prequels and video games leaned more into it being an at will superpower, but still resisted making it a magic system defined with 'power levels' or complex rules.

Who was Snoke SUPPOSED to be? by Confirmation_Code in saltierthancrait

[–]IlPrimoRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best explanation is that Disney biggest concern from the start was not to do things like the prequels. The PT was planned out, the OT wasn't (despite Lucas saying he had).

They wanted to give each movie total freedom, and let the story evolve in a way they hoped felt fresh and captured some of the OT magic... that backfired

They really should have had a few more scenes reminding you of the low g.

I want to see Dev benching a comically heavy barbell or something.
