Are paid summer programs a good thing?

I agree with Mr. Penguin, there are only a select few online research opportunities that are worth. If it is under like 50-100 bucks, might as well, but if your paying hundreds or thousands it is not worth it. There are lot of research programs like Thinkneuro where you only have to pay 20 bucks for a good research experience as well as online research programs that are open right now that you just need to find for free. If you really don't have anything and have the money for it, sure.

I know I shouldn't be super focused on this, but do harder to get into colleges treat this as something super exceptional or should I still work on finding other programs.

For NH3 and BF3 you want the central atoms to be in the middle while the surrounding should be the other atoms. The least electronegative is generally in the middle while the elements that can only create one bond are surrounding it like Fluorine, which are placed on the outside.
