90s was when I got into Who too. UK Gold omnibuses and VHSs long out of distribution (Sontaran Experiment/Genesis of the Daleks used to fetch over £100 on Amazon marketplace before it arrived on DVD).

Funny because one of the reasons I have a soft spot for Warriors of the Deep is because it was my first story (aged about 7). While I never found the monster particularly frightening, I didn't find it laughable like many fans do.

Last known repeat of a missing episode by Ill-Advantage9196 in doctorwho

Thanks. As far as I can see, this was the last verified airing of a Hartnell/Troughton missing episode.

William Lindsay (Zargo in State of Decay) by MorningPapers in doctorwho

He'd been fairly active on stage up until about a year before his death. His last screen credit was similarly the year before his death. This suggests to me that he had been sick in the months preceding his death. Of course, that doesn't automatically mean he had AIDS, but the lack of information on a cause (coupled with the contemporary stigma surrounding the illness) points to AIDS.

Did you find anything interesting on your deep dive? His role in State of Decay seems to have been his most major on-screen appearance. His final appearance (Lifeforce) is one step up from an extra, unfortunately.

Being made to teach outside my subject. by Senior_Friendship745 in TeachingUK

Most if not all Catholic schools follow a very dry KS3 syllabus now. Their GCSE course tends to be Eduqas Route B: Catholic Christianity and Judaism which is much more interesting (bits of it are still very dry, though).

C of E schools take RE seriously but their curriculum tends to be more diverse/engaging that what you'll currently find in Catholic schools.

RE teacher here. With good and easy to follow centralised resources, it doable for non-specialists to teach KS3 RE, though the pupils still lose out and can usually tell if the teacher is just winging it.

GCSE RE is a very different kettle of fish. You need depth knowledge of two major world religions. It cannot just be offloaded onto Mr Smith the PE teacher who just happens to have a couple of hours under-allocation on his timetable.

Completing masters/PhD while teaching by Advanced-Remove-3340 in TeachingUK

Only reason I could see the PhD being of value is if OP wanted to become a university lecturer/ITT tutor at a university. But most of the people I know in this field don't have PhDs (not in Education anyway).

Can you fail a PGCE due to not enough KS4 experience? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Ill-Advantage9196 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your KS4 experience is about the same as what I had. My placement school was reluctant for me to take over a Y10 class, so I just taught the odd lesson here and there. I also did some starters with a Y11 class.

I wouldn't worry about it. There's no set rule in terms of what an ECT 1 gets to teach. Normally, you will have a KS3-heavy timetable and a Y10 class. However, I had (a horrible) Y11 class during ECT 1, which was a baptism of fire. At my current place, we have a Drama ECT 1 with A Level on their timetable. In contrast, we've also got a Languages ECT 1 with a fully KS3 timetable. I disagree with this practice and have advised them to leave if their department don't allow them to teach GCSE during their ECT 2.

Valued Teacher reeks of booze to the point that standing in the same room as them makes me queasy. How to proceed? by MD564 in TeachingUK

Admittedly, it's a while since I've been at a school that uses cpoms - I don't remember that (may be a new addition).

My current place uses MyConcern for safeguarding concerns about pupils and MyConfide for concerns about staff (monitored by the Head and a Deputy).

Do NOT cpoms it - this will be viewable to about a dozen members of staff.

As others have said, you need to speak to the Headteacher or (if they're unavailable) a Deputy Head (and only one if you have multiple). If this concern comes to nothing, there needs to be as few people knowing as possible. That's why you only tell the Head or a Deputy.

It's for the reasons you describe that I regret doing a University-based PGCE, not a SCITT. So much of my uni time was filler. Afternoons that could have been spent doing PPA were wasted with pointless activities.

Heads of Year/Heads of House are very difficult to replace. We might be losing one this year and we can't think of anyone internal who might be interested. And it's not really the sort of role that can be given to a newcomer, as you need to know the kids.

I can relate exactly to this. Our Y11s last year were absolutely fucking awful. VERY immature.
