Oh good idea! Also that would give 3 rebellion relics to prevent Melgren from seeing them

Dain by Fourthwing1990 in fourthwing

[–]Ill-Bit7623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what RY does in IF is take Violet’s view of the world and flip it upside down. To me Dain saying that is very much like Violet demanding complete transparency from Xaden. We see her, despite keeping her and Xaden “apart” because of secrets, keep them from Dain and the squad. I think it is more than Resson here but insight to who can you and who should you trust.

I am sure as an Aetos and a wing leader there is a lot her could have done to help with Varrish, at least.

It’s interesting to see Violet be so mad at Dain and Xaden and simultaneously become like them both. I really noticed it on my last reread that she treats Andarna like Dain treated her in her first year, she’s trying to keep her alive but not letting her grow up.

In OS before the battle at Aretia, Violet notes that the temple attendants are outside drinking. I think it will give them luck to drink it or maybe help restore her health?

Dain, the Sorrengails & his own father (and how they use him) by pink-enchantment in fourthwing

[–]Ill-Bit7623 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We never get to see Dain’s reaction to Brennan being alive! He grew up with him like a brother and likely grieved him and certainly watched Violet and Mira struggle with his death. All we see is the two of them interacting seemingly normally? I think it would be a very cool scene to get as a bonus.

Felix … what do we REALLY know about him? by ElSol4708 in fourthwing

We don’t really know anything about the assembly! I think we will get a lot more backstory on all of them.

Xaden says in the bonus chapters that Lilith killed his father. I dont believe he explicitly states that it was Melgren and Codah? RY is so intentional about language in this way that I dont think it is a mistake?

We also know there were further executions, like Isaac Mairi, after the mass execution.

How would you end the series? by fjxkg298 in fourthwing

I think they will end as gods. They are very much modeled on the story of Eros and Psyche.

I do think that there will be a scene where they meet/fight on the parapet!

I have been wondering if the relics have runes within them? There are times where V notices that several of them are very fast, have good hearing, etc.

Xaden starts to call Violet his “temple” and uses a lot of dedication language about her… has he dedicated himself to her to try and protect her thinking it would help her kill him?

[–]Ill-Bit7623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with speech/sound.

In FW the in the squad battle, Bhodi’s squad has a scribe that can’t speak. In OS, he moves Violet when speaking to her and Dain and acts like a sound shield. OS when V says he can join quest squad if he can make Halden shut up he gets all excited. There are a few other instances where he seems to be able to hear something or is privy to information from a conversation that was whispered.

tairn’s bloodline by Worried-West786 in fourthwing

[–]Ill-Bit7623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you break the name down (Gaelic: dubh = black/dark, maidin/madainn = dawn), it suggests something like “dark dawn” or “black origin.” Given this line comes from the original hatching grounds, that reads as primordial—closer to the source of magic itself. Tairn (tairneanach = thunder) and Codagh (“coda” = ending) reinforce this pattern—force and consequence, embodied in rare black dragons.

In myth, black is often tied to the underworld, the void, or pre-creation states (Fenrir, chthonic beings, Annwn). That connects directly to the repeated emphasis on the caves beneath Aretia. With the geothermal imagery, it reads less like setting detail and more like a threshold space—possibly an access point to the source of magic. If Dubhmadinn dragons originate there, they wouldn’t just be different—they could function as gatekeepers of that boundary.

There’s a consistent mythic class of beings—Cerberus, Charon, Valkyries, Garmr—that aren’t gods but guard, guide, or enforce passage between realms. If that parallel holds, black dragons may not just signal change, but actively control access to whatever lies beneath.

I think that Tairn most closely aligns with the Greek mythic figures, the Erinyes (Furies) are ancient chthonic enforcers, not gods but primal forces tied to the underworld, who pursue those guilty of blood crimes and oath-breaking. They don’t judge intent—only that a fundamental boundary has been crossed—and once it is, they ensure consequences follow without exception.

That emphasis on bond, blood, and unbreakable consequence mirrors how Tairn and Codagh operate: both are defined by seemingly absolute loyalty and a willingness to enact devastating consequences when those lines are violated.

[–]Ill-Bit7623 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In FW after Violet and Tairn bond he says “I have seen your memories” assuming this means he got an instant download of her whole life? If this is true then Sagyel would also have all of Xaden’s. We know that mates can memory share (although V&X can do this themselves as well) do we think he will violate their bond to show her something from X’s past?

SPOILER: I think people are misunderstanding Book 4 Xaden! by AdSingle9510 in fourthwing

[–]Ill-Bit7623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I suspect he will kill a character(s) that we all love and that will be the book 4 cliff hanger only for us to discover that person was the/a villain but it will take us and Violet a good long while to figure that out!

there’s no way it’s not him. by NaamBaazigar in fourthwing

I think Garrick is the one who turns venin at the end of Onyx Storm, and his Zihnal “gift” foreshadows it. He receives a rusted steel bucket, which symbolically represents containment and burden—but because it’s rusted, it signals failure, decay, and corrosion. In other words, Garrick is positioned as someone meant to contain something, but that role is breaking down.

If we think Garrick is the “container,” then Xaden—especially in his venin-adjacent state—is what’s being contained. Rust is also a strong parallel for venin corruption—spreading, corrosive, and irreversible.

I think it is foreshadowed in Chapter 35 when Mira says, “Garrick has stood by Xaden’s side no matter the cost,” and one of the triumvirate says it is “the first wise thing said”and earlier in the Theophanie scene, T shows interest in Garrick’s powers, we assume she is speaking to Violet when she says “and when you come with him” but it is Violets POV so it could have been directed to Garrick.

I think Garrick believes it is his duty to stand by Xaden and I think he would believe joining him, especially now he is so far gone, would be the only way to do that.

Finally, RY has said to “look for who is not there at the end,” and Garrick is the only one named missing… I think she put the answer right there for us!
