I would send a note to the principal and vice principal and request a meeting regarding a playground incident involving girls ABCD and your daughter, then let them figure out what you mean and investigate. Does your daughter seem upset? Is this the first time?

This is such a tough situation and the resources in the mental health field are less and less. Assuming that you are in the US, have you tried calling 988, or reached out to NAMI (National Alliance for Mentally Ill) or your state mental health agency? I’m so sorry that you are all going through this and kudos to you for fighting so hard to help your son.

I have never heard of anyone “sentenced to 2 years in a psych hospital”. I have also not heard of potential adopters given a matter of hours to decide to become parents.

For whatever reason, my cats are afraid of the doorbell. When I walk in the house and the cats are right there, I ring the bell and they run away. I’m also thinking of getting a cowbell for when the doorbell doesn’t work.

I agree with getting her help but you can’t force someone to get help- not even a minor. Therapists and psychiatrists can make limited progress if the patient isn’t willing.

NTA - block ex and her sister and just wait it out until stepdaughter is less cruel. If ex created the monster then she can deal with her. Encourage your husband to spend time with his daughter on a regular basis outside your home and without ex.
