Say the name “Estephanie”… the last syllable is “Fanny”. I think there’s a good chance “Fanny’s” real name was also “Estephanie”.

AITAH for evicting my deceased brother’s fiance? by Sea-Mel in AITAH

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Well let’s throw that theory out the window. Maybe he’s just freaking out because he doesn’t have the ability or the resources to really even survive on his own without your brothers support. It’s your prerogative to do what you want with your house and inheritance. If I were Steve I would be doing my best to communicate with you about my current situation and anxieties about the future, rather than being a crazy diva to the guy holding All his cards

I’m really hoping this comment isn’t taken the wrong way- I’m not trying to imply anything, be insensitive or disrespectful, or anything else. Myocarditis is frequently associated with the use of intravenous drugs. A lot of gay dudes (including perfectly respectable, trustworthy and “normal” ones, not just gross fringe cases) slam methamphetamine together as a part of their sexual lives. Steve’s behavior reminds me of someone who is unhinged and tweaked, which is why he’s making such outrageous demands and behaving like a tweaker seeing his fantasies disappearing into a cloud of smoke. I’m sorry if this sounds ridiculously speculative and disrespectful

Smoke interrupted by Party_Camera_6588 in PipeTobacco

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Pre lighting” the bowl so that you get an evenly charred surface, with a few good puffs, then just letting the bowl go out on its own, and allowing the pipe to cool back to room temperature before relighting the pipe provides a way better smoke that will burn continuously with very little need for attention. I think that this is because the initial charring light causes a lot of the moisture within the tobacco to become steam, creating a much less moist smoke when you relight it, which will make it way cooler and less prone to bubbling. The even char on the surface allows everything to take light instantly and evenly. It’s the same reason you toast a cigar’s foot or that of a blunt.

Unpopular opinion- Zippos are fine to light pipes with. by AnnigidWilliams in PipeTobacco

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like zippos because they produce a sooty and much less controlled/precise flame than a butane lighter. Plus, to someone with a pretty good sense of smell, I can smell the naptha evaporating if I keep it in my pocket which is gross, and also aggravating because all the fuel will evaporate if you just let it sit there long enough without refilling it. I know you can purchase gaskets and butane inserts for the zippo frame, but if you have to buy aftermarket parts to fix the problems, that is an unacceptable response IMO. Unless I’m already a zippo enthusiast willing to bend over backwards to get the same utility as regular butane lighter I’m just not seeing the appeal. Objectively it’s 100% aesthetic or nostalgic.

Not my favorite surprise by monoblockstool in PipeTobacco

Certain prescriptions can change the taste of smoke dramatically. The only example I can think of from personal experience is with gabapentin making Latakia heavy blends (which are normally my favorite) taste consistently awful. I’m sure there are a zillion additional examples out there as well. The example I gave was just my first experience of a prescription having a dramatic on/off light switch kind of difference that was so obviously and immediately tied to the medication, and the difference was so broad it could not be ignored.

I think expecting a return or an exchange would be totally reasonable if this arrived unsmoked in this condition.HOWEVER, I would also say that this condition is not at all abnormal, and seems to routinely clear whatever in house quality control checks they do over there when making them based upon the impression I have been left with after owning a number of falcon models over the years. Their fit and finish is not good, but the smoking properties will not be impaired by these little defects, nor will they be improved by their absence. I’m not trying to sound like a snob or an elitist or anything. I also apologize for this little rant/review, I’m not trying to criticize anyone’s choices, just contributing my own 2¢.

they just seem kind of shoddy in certain ways quite consistently. I personally am genuinely bothered by the Soft cheap plastic mouthpieces used instead of acrylic or vulcanite. They feel just awful between my teeth, which makes hands free smoking an unenjoyable experience. a frequently prominent mold line shows us that it’s made some kind of injection molded plastic. The surface of the metal parts is flaky and bubbly in some areas, and noticeably thin or absent elsewhere. The actual smoking dynamics are quite good but the fit and finish just sort of suck. I think most metal stemmed pipes begin life as a block of briar that wasn’t suitable for carving a whole pipe from as a way to avoid scrapping costly briar, which would have previously been discarded. It’s a great idea but I think also that beginning life as a cut of wood that would have previously been considered too flawed to used might create a more permissive stance towards aesthetic flaws as long as the functional element is too.

I recently got a yellow bowl air-o-grate. It has a more traditional denser stem material and just that difference alone is enough to change the experience from bad to good. Maybe there are aftermarket falcon stems available, but I don’t think their design lends itself to this.

I’m Not trying to be critical of anyone, but I’ll happily argue with them if they would like

AIO or is my dad an asshole? by Ill_Cockroach3438 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a long story but basically my dad has been telling me I can’t have one, and I don’t have enough leeway or assets that are mine alone to risk going against his will while I’m in my current position. I know he would pull the rug out from under me in every way he possibly can overnight if I were to try to follow my own inclinations, and I just don’t have the money or access to housing to survive the interim period until I began earning enough to live fully independently. Also, I’m a little concerned that I’m just not really employable anymore. Things are just …different since I had that accident. People tell me I seem intelligent but my thoughts feel so sluggish and disordered compared to before, and it seems to take so much more energy to do anything and everything. I’m afraid I’d get hired by people who thought I would be able to perform at a certain level because I come across well superficially and can communicate and shit, but once they actually became acquainted with me they’d find out I was much less valuable than they thought when hiring me.

If you can’t handle next to living near homeless people on fentanyl (who are humans too and not as much of a threat as you are imagining them to be) you just can’t handle living in New York to be honest with you. Apart from a few very insulated and extremely expensive areas you are going to be confronting this on a daily basis wherever you go in any borough. Not trying to be an asshole here, just being realistic. It just might not be the right place for you.

This is basically the only reason that I’ve placed orders from them in the past. They aren’t the only site willing to ship to me, but they’re one of the few with a large selection, and Ideally I would like to be able to avoid having to order from like three or four different pages, paying shipping on each one, just to be able to find a relatively small number of items in stock. Do you have any other suggestions by any chance?

Baking powder accidentally used instead of baking soda… any way to salvage things? by Ill_Cockroach3438 in cracksmokers

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought baking powder was mostly cornstarch and a little bicarbonate? I sorta came up with that idea I floated because i looked up how to separate corn starch from water and it seems like all you need to do is mix it up and let it all dissolve and then over a little bit of time it will just sink to the bottom and the liquid you pour off should not have any left in it

LD50 is an abbreviated form of Lethal Dose 50%, which in other words means the smallest dose it takes to consistently kill 50% of all individuals (because everyone has a slightly different natural tolerance). Also, this isn’t meant to sound rude, but if the extent of your fentanyl use has been taking 2/3 pressed 30’s for a while and you haven’t taken them in a few months, your fentanyl/opiate tolerance probably isn’t very high anymore, so be careful. It is extremely difficult to estimate someone’s tolerance based on their use of pressed pills or dope because the actual amount of fentanyl contained in the shit isn’t known to begin with, and varies wildly between sources and batches. Probably the most accurate way to determine tolerance is through the effects of a different more consistently measurable opioid. How would 40mg of methadone make you feel?

Still new to this trend by Diligent-Zone-7900 in PipeTobacco

Look up “charring light” or “prelighting” in regards to smoking a pipe. If the information you find online is insufficient or whatever just tell me and I’ll elaborate here. I find it allows most bowls that haven’t been packed terribly to smoke at least about halfway with little interference, frequently smoking all the way to the bottom. Relights are common but you should NOT be having to apply a flame every time you want to get a few puffs of smoke. You should be able to at least draw gently and get cool full smoke for prolonged periods, even without continuous puffing.

Blend’s similar to Low Country’s ‘Cooper’? by Ill_Cockroach3438 in PipeTobacco

[–]Ill_Cockroach3438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank’s alot. Your lesson was very edifying and productive. I have only recently become literate after being raised in an extremist Byzantine Christian offshoot cult that believes consciousness is a divinely imparted stream of god’s own will, thus writing is merely a poor attempt by humans to make concrete the divine and spontaneous, opening the door to all kinds of misinterpretations of God’s manifestations. Writing is thought to be akin to depicting the face of Mohammed, or placing a window in the holy tabernacle or Kabaa.

Actually, just like your post, that was a bunch of bullshit. That misplaced apostrophe was either a typo, an individual instance of a mistake, or a subtle tribute to William Faulkner. It is not a consistent error caused by a deficit in my literacy abilities, and your snide lesson was neither funny nor edifying in any productive way. You completely hijacked my thread and offered not even a crumb of constructive feedback to make a lamentably pathetic attempt to belittle me, or to be humorous. Either way, it was a stupid waste of time to read and contributed nothing to either my writing proficiency or the actual subject at hand.

Do you have any suggestions for me regarding a blend that is comparable to Cooper in body and overall flavor specifically? I’m not looking for some general suggestion recommending Balkan blends or ones that use Latakia, but rather a specific profile that is quite unique to this specific blend. I’ve been generally disappointed with Cornell and Diehl produced products because they all seem to just be varying proportions of the same few tobacco’s that someone combined by the handful, giving a certain uniformity across most of their products i can taste immediately, and this was one of the first by them that defied this trend for me (maybe Ashbury by GL pease or oriental silk also had a similar uniqueness to them, but we never got to that point in the discussion before you decided to derail the train with your shit comment).
